Cut in Half

Chapter 6

Eric sat down right next to Luke. It was recess at the end of the school year and Luke was spending the last recess with his Girlfriend Hadlee . She had blonde hair, freckles, and her smile was perfect. Anyway they were sitting right next to each other on a bench holding hands talking. Eric frowned.

"Hey Luke." He said. Luke ignored him "Luuuukeee." Eric said again. No response. Their faces came close. " Wow don't do it Luke, she may have cooties or something." Eric said. They kissed. " UGH C'MON MAN YOU ARE SO DISGUSTING YOUR'E GONNA HAVE COOTIES !!" They parted and Luke looked at Eric. " What was that you were gonna say?" He said while smiling.

Eric nodded his head slowly " That's just not right."

Luke chuckled hysterically.

"Cmon lets go play basketball." Luke said. "All right." Eric responded. Luke waved and smiled at Hadlee, and she waved back grinning. Luke ran over and grabbed a basketball from a ball cart and ran back to him dribbling. "Go Luke!!! woooooooo!!" Hadlee cheered. Luke shot the ball up to the basketball hoop. And then everything went blurry.

Eric sat up on his bed. He looked up on the top bunk to see if Luke was there. Nothing. Eric hopped into his wheelchair and rolled over to his bathroom. He used the toilet and rolled over to wash his hands. As he was doing it he looked at himself in the mirror. He looked awful. He looked so miserable. He thought about his dream, and how much he missed Luke.

He didn't how how much he could go on with life. He wanted to see Luke so badly. He remembered how his Mom was crying in frustration over the huge hospital bills. He didn't want his Mom to pay money for him while she had stuff to pay for. He didn't want to get in the way. He then decided.

He was going to commit suicide.

He rolled over out of the bathroom and into the living room where his Mom was working on the bills. " Hey Mom I'm gonna go over to the park." His Mom turned around and looked at him and smiled. " Ok honey have a good time." Then looked back at the bills and got back to work.

He grabbed the crutches from the hall and put them between the pits of his arms. He opened the door. " Bye Mom." He said.

"Bye sweetie have a good time." She replied. Eric took a long last look at his Mom.He started to get second thoughts about what he was going to do.

'No' he told himself. 'I'm doing this for her.'

He walked out and shut the door.

The Park wasn't too far away, it was only about 2 blocks away. Him and Luke always went there and they would always climb the trees. It was the best. The trees were about 40 feet in the air and perfect for climbing.

He was really going to miss climbing with Luke. And everything else. In the distance, Eric could see the park and it's trees. Eric walked with the crutches a bit faster. As he was doing that, one of the crutches stuck in a big crack in the side walk, and Eric fell down face first. Eric groaned.

He pushed himself up slowly. And when he looked up, he saw Hadlee with her mouth open.
