" Are you Ok?" She asked.

"Yea, yea." He replied. He slowly lifted himself from the ground. he got up on his knees an put up one foot and put some of his wait on it, and he fell again.

"Here," Hadlee said, "let me help you. She walked over to him and grabbed his hand and helped him up off the ground.

She picked up the crutches and handed them to Eric. Eric put one crutch between his arms, and the other crutch between his other arm.

"I'll walk with you." She said.

" Ah, no its Ok I can walk by myself."

" Please, I insist," she argued. " Fine, I'm walking to the park." Eric said.

" I'm really really sorry about what happened. It's so sad that I'l- We'll get to see Luke again." She sniffled.

Eric didn't reply. They started walking towards the park. There was a long awkward silence. " I hope that you'll get better real soon." She said, breaking the silence. " Yea thanks I do too."

'Ugh how am I supposed to commit suicide if she's around.' He thought to himself.

Finally, they arrived at the park. " Do you mind if I stay? I was going to the library but I can stay if you want." ' NO ' he said to himself. ' I do mind. '

" Sure. I don't mind." He said instead. She smiled " Ok." They stepped into the sand. They walked over to the swings and Eric layed the crutches on a pole and sat down on a swing, and Hadlee sat on another. "Are you ready for school to start?" Hadlee asked. That question made Eric's heart skip a beat. It was August. " Whats the date?" Eric asked.

" August the  23rd." She replied. School starts in 1 days. Whats going to happen? Will people recognize him? Will they feel sympathy for him?

Eric kept the conversation going. " Are there any new kids do you think?" He asked. " Umm, I'm not really sure. I think there is."

" Oh."

Hadlee pulled out a touch screen phone and turned it on. " Well, its 10 : 45 and my Mom wants me back at 11: 00 for lunch. I better get to the library." She said.

" Ok, c ya." Replied Eric, relieved. Hadlee got up and walked away. She turned back and smiled and waved. Which reminded Eric of his dream. Which reminded him of what he was doing here.

Over in the distance, Eric heard, " I look forward to seeing you in school Eric." Hadlee said. Eric didn't respond.

He got up and grabbed the crutches and waited for Hadlee to walk far away from him. After she was well far away he checked to see if there was anybody else walking or driving anywhere near where he was. After that, he walked over to a tree that looked fairly good for climbing.

He set the crutches against the tree and looked up it. It was Eric's favorite tree to climb. He grabbed a branch and lifted himself up a branch. He put one of his feet on a branch and supported most of his wait on it. And pain flared up his leg. Eric moaned.

But he toughed it out and kept on climbing. Each time he put wait on that one foot he moaned in pain.

Eric looked down and he estimated that he was 12 feet up. He lifted up his arm and grabbed a branch and lifted himself up and put his left foot and a small branch.

CRACKKKKKKKKKKKKk

The branch broke, and Eric tripped and tried to put his foot on a diff branch but missed. And he fell, his body hitting small pointy branches as he fell. Then he finally hit the ground. Pain flared all over his body.
