Dipper POV

I was fast asleep in my bed dreaming of running away from all the worries I have to deal with when I wake up. Searching in the woods for who knows what and enjoying the sound of nothing.

Until my quietness was finally torn apart by my sister's screaming. I quietly ran and sat on my sister Mabel's bed and holded her in my arms and whispered her favorite song to comfort her.

It was just a dream I told her. Mabel said it felt real and buried her face in her sweater PJ top and then hid her face on my chest. I never asked what was her dream, it could have been the memories of losing our dad or that it's our first year of the reaping.

My name is Dipper Pines and I live in District 12. I live with my mother and my twin sister Mabel and it's our first year of the Reaping for the Cipher Games. Once every year two kids from each 12 districts are chosen to fight to the death and the only one that survives the games will not only go home as famous but giving there district all the supplies and goods it needs to survive until the next reaping. They say it's to punish us for our recklessness in the past with war and all that other stuff, but it's been 74 years, isn't that enough.

My Great Uncle Stan was actually a winner in the Games but we never really see him that much, my mom says he's not what he used to be after the Games so he wants to live alone and stay alone. We do say hi and visit but my mom says that if we're around him it has to be quick. Which makes me wonder how bad are the games?

I skipped the bath and all the other usually stuff I'm suppose to do in the morning and grabbed my jacket and told Mabel that ''I'll get your favorite for Breakfast'' and grabbed my journal. That could cheer her up a bit. I quietly escape from my home but nope! Waddles our pet PIG just has to try his thousandths attempt to eat my boots.

Luckily I ran as fast as lightening to the broken and ripped to pieces fence and turned around and screamed ''I'll still eat you, you thanksgiving meal''. And left a little chuckle knowing Waddles would give me a look of confusion, because we never really celebrated the holidays that much we were as poor as dirt until I started secretly hunting (but it was only Christmas, birthdays, and new years).

I sneaked into the woods hoping to get a couple of squirrels and trade it for pancakes, but it must be my lucky day not only did I avoid the Boot eater but I found a Deer! All my hopes were up maybe it's a sign telling me that Mabel and I aren't going to be chosen on our first year. I could not only feed my family but earn some more money than I usually get from hunting and get new clothes and who knows what.

A regular hunter would usually hide and catch the deer with his weapon but not me. I was looking at the deer straight in the eyes and chanted my spell from my Journal. The deer was almost mine until.

HEY DIPPER!

I lost my consideration and the deer ran off. I turned and it was my friend Wendy standing on a large rock looking like she's some super hero. I gave her a look and told her ''that was my deer''!

Wendy jumped off the rock and handed me a bow and arrow. Then she said ''just do it Dipper''. Me and Wendy sometimes place bets on what our arrows would land on, sometimes we do it for fun or who's going to pay for our meal. I pointed the arrow in place possible at a 75 or a 60 angle in the air and then let it go. Then a screech. We both ran to my target and it was my Deer, ''looks like this is my lucky day'' I said out loud. Wendy just said ''what''?

''Nothing'' I said.

we skinned and cleaned the deer meat and then sold in the market where we split out fortune. The Northwest family really did know how to pay. After that we went to Lazy Susan and bought breakfast. As we were walking to my house Wendy said ''so this is your first reaping''.

I said ''yeah, and Mabel's''.

Wendy patted my back and told me ''not to worry there are a lot of kids in District 12 I'm sure it'll be painless''.

She was right we did have a lot of kids in 12 but most of those kids are Wendy's siblings or her friends, she has lots of friends, especially me. It must be hard on her to lose one each year, we only had was one winner in 12 and that's my Gruncle Stan. Which is why I'm never getting married I don't want my child to live a life like this. Even though I sort of have a crush on Wendy but I know it's never going to happen since she's with Robbie. I really can't wrap my mind around how a awesome girl like Wendy would go for a guy like Robbie, he skips his job at the coal mine and has a really weird fashion sense.

When we arrived to my house I told Wendy ''I'd see her at the reaping'', but then she stopped me and gave me some bread.

''Is this real''? I said

She said ''Yeah I put my name in the reaping Bowl a few times to get some of that, see ya''. And she ran off.

When I open the door I placed the Pancakes on the table and gave my mom the rest of the money I had left. But sadly, money didn't distract her very well and I was locked in the bathroom until I took a bath.
