  Dipper POV

I finally caught my breath, then realized I wasn't on stage anymore. I was in an empty room guarded by Peace Keepers to make sure I won't escape or anything.

When you're chosen to fight to the death in the Cipher Games you are allowed to say good bye to all your friends, and family for 5 minutes, before you go to the Capitol.

I started to hear foot steps and when the door opened it was Mabel and my mom. I hugged them real tight and hope they never let go which was so odd. I noticed I was scared which is funny because I'm always scared of the littlest of things like if I forgot one answer to a test or found Waddles on my bed covered in mud. I was always scared of being uncertain of things which makes me organize everything by numbers so what am I going to do in the games. This is nothing easy like writing a list to remember to close my door so Mabel's pet pig won't go in your room, everything is going to be the unexpected now and I can't plan it when, where, or how.

I wiped my sisters face and said ''everything is going to be okay. I'm going to win for you.''

It still didn't stop her from crying, but my time was up now. I couldn't talk to her anymore. When the Peace Keepers where taking them away I quickly told my mom to'' take care of Mabel.''

After my mom and Mabel, Wendy came with some of her friends, except for Thompson. Which was very weird. When Wendy always hangs out with her friends Thompson sticks with them like a leech.

I gazed at Wendy and she looked like she was about to cry a storm. I told her ''I can do this, just watch over my sister and things will be good'' and gave her a hug. I didn't know what else to say to her then like some joke or something. When I first met Wendy it was after my dad died, I was trying to find a job since my mom's clothing business wasn't going so well in the summer and I first applied at District 12's only lumber store. I persuaded her father the best I could but ''I wasn't man enough to handle this job''. I walked out of there glumly then suddenly I was pushed to the ground, I was about to exchange a ''what was that for'' until a hand covered my mouth.

''Shh, I'm trying to sneak out of here'' said Wendy.

''What?'' I said

But then her hand covered my mouth again and she picked me up and ran to a broken fence and stopped. She finally noticed that she kidnapped me and put me down and said ''sorry'' like it was the usually I accidently spilled my drink in your room.

I was furious. I was about to yell at her until she went through the fence and it changed my mood from furious to curious. What was she doing? I followed her ignoring that I'm breaking a very important law to all 12 Districts (never leave your District no matter what). And I found out she was pretty cool, she taught me how to hunt and showed me many wonderful places outside the District. After that I had a big crush on her, a year after I told her about my crush and she knew about it and she didn't have the same feelings for me like I have, but we both stayed friends which to me was better than nothing. I was so glad I met her, if we both stopped hanging out I would have gone insane.

When Wendy and her friends left the Northwest family came. And I didn't know what was more weirder that they came or that they just said nothing and stared at me for 5 full minutes. Of course I said hi to them to break the entire awkward atmosphere but they never exchanged even the slightest comment to me. I guess they just want to examine me so they can go to there daughter and tell them about my noodle arms and how much she has a chance to win this.

When they finally left the last person I got to say good bye to was Thompson. Which left me speechless because I have nothing to say to him. the last time we talked was about how ugly I dressed to the Reaping.

''So.'' He said.

I was still quiet until what was in front of me was a cap with a blue pine tree symbol in the middle.

''Here'' ,he said.

I took the cap and put it on my head. It was a perfect fit. I said ''Thank you''. And then ''Why?''

Because you're allowed to bring one or two items to the Capitol that belongs in your District and I think it should be my lucky cap.

Right now if I heard the word luck again I swear to God I will punch someone in the face.

''And you need it more than any one if you want to come home and see your sister and Wendy. I may not know the other kids who are in the Games but you of all of them deserve to win and you're going to because I think you have something that no kid in any District could compare you to and that's you're determination'', said Thompson.

''That was very nice of you Thompson'', I said. Then he left.

I was alone now with Peace Keepers guarding me till I got on the train. So Thompson said I was allowed to bring one or two items from my District. I patted the top of my new cap which secretly had my journal 3 in it and then smiled.
