Homes? Yeah, we still have them, but barely use them in North Carolina. We get in comfortable clothing after the working day is done, get in a huge circle, and sleep in cozy sleeping bags.
Where do we get clothes? From the sewers. And Travelers obtain the clothes. Travelers are rare to find. They are people willing to walk from the sewing company to their own town. The closest clothing company here in North Carolina is about 100 miles away. We only have 3 Travelers here that pick up our clothes, and 3 other Travelers to pick up the food. (Most of the stuff we eat is non~perishable).
The next morning, I return to the park, which is where Ash and I host Children's Circle. Everyone comes...except Eversong.
"Where IS she?" I cry to Monique, who just shrugs. She knows as much as I do, which is nothing.
"There!" yells Ash, pointing to the beat down road. Eversong's dad is carrying her in his arms, and he is crying.
"Eversong...she's just so sick..." he yelps as Eversong coughs loudly. She sounds gravely ill.
"Cassie, hold me," she begs, and I scoop her up from her father's arms. I stroke her blonde hair, and look into her cocoa brown eyes.
"Baby, what's wrong?"
"Everything," she moans. "My tummy, my throat, my nose..." and she starts crying.
"Oh, baby, it will get better." Eversong's dad is slightly moving away, desperatley trying to get to work.
"How did the song end?" she bawls, and Monique glances at me.
"Do you want us to sing?" I ask, and she nods. I take a deep breath and begin with Monique.
"The little worm gathered his friends. They picked up Mr. Coconut, climbed up that tree. Mr. Coconut got back in that palm tree." Eversong whimpers, and she's finally quiet. I lightly touch her head, and I have to keep myself from crying. I don't want to scare her.
"She's burning up." Ash picks her up and runs off into the woods. "ASH!" I yell angrily. What the heck is he doing with my little Eversong? I sprint after him. I hear Monique calling, but then Ali and Max start crying, so she is forced to take care of them.
I follow Ash into the woods. There could be anything to attack us. Ash suddenly stops in his tracks.
"Ash, what the h~" but I stop. He's dipping Eversong in a small lake in the woods. She sighs in relief.
"That feels better," she cries, and he lets her float. He suddenly pins me up to a tree as Eversong paddles around in the lake. He angrily presses his lips against mine.
"Ash, I love you," I say when he releases.
"I know," he replies. Thats not the ideal response.
"Y~You love me back..right?" I ask.
"Of course."
"I~I can't run away. I made up my mind." He huffs.
"Well, then we have three years together. Then, I'm leaving." I shake my head.
"No, but I think I have a plan."
