Ash and I hold hands. All the children are sitting in a circle. I can't help but look into their willing eyes, but everywhere that I look, I see reminders of Eversong. I take a deep breath. Monique smiles her usual radiant grin, and says those seven magical words.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife." All of the kids cheer, and I wrap my arms around his neck and give Ash a celebration kiss. "But wait! We have one more marriage today!" Monique squeals, and I turn around, only to see the children as confused as I am. Monique walks over to Joshua with his black hair and his tan skin. "Joshua and I have decided to get married." She quickly pecks him on the cheek. I never even knew they were in a relationship, but whatever. Marriages are always fun.
Food is provided from Monique, a rare treat: bananas from her garden. Her dad has a small hobby that he does every morning before work: he gardens!
Suddenly, Ali starts coughing, and then I scream. It sounds just like Eversong. Everyone turns around, and I stop.
"S~Sorry." I look in Ash's eyes, which are glassy. He heard Eversong's spirit in the cough, too. "Ash, do you think Ali~"
"No," he shouts forcefully. "She's not sick." I nod slightly, but we both know what's going on: whatever Eversong had is spreading.
