I woke up in a hospital bed not having any idea wear I was. My vision was slightly blurry and my head was pounding. I looked around me and saw that I was alone. Reaching for the remote on my bed, I sat myself up slightly and called for a nurse. I closed my eyes and waited for someone to come in.
After a few minutes a young nurse with a bright smile came in. He had light blond hair and pale eyes. He looked wide awake for the time of day and his job.
"Good morning, Sunshine," He said to me, walking over to my bed. "How are you feeling?"
"Confused," I answered, slowly opening my eyes. "What happened earlier?"
" Well when you saw your mom your legs gave out on you and you hit your head. We moved you up here and you've been asleep for a good two hours. Do you need anything? Are you hungry, want something to drink?" He talked kinda slowly, possibly thinking that I was too tired and out of it to fully comprehend what he was saying.
"I wanna see my mom." I told him. "Is she okay?"
"Your mom is doing fine. Shes asleep right now, but when she wakes up you can see her." He told me with a hint of an apology in his voice.
"Okay, thank you." I let out a small sigh of relief in knowing that my mom was okay.
"Okay, now, are you hungry?" He asked me again.
"A little bit, yeah." Now that he mentioned it, I was starving. I hadn't eaten anything since lunch yesterday.
"What would you like? They can make pancakes, or muffins, or cereal, pretty much anything."
"Can I just get a blueberry muffin and some apple juice please?" I didn't want to eat too much in fear that I would be sick seeing my mom later.
"Sure thing, and someone should be in to take your vitals here in a second." He smiled at me and headed out the door of my room.
I laid back down on the bed and flipped the TV on to a music station. I was still pretty tired, so I closed my eyes and figured I would get woken up when someone brought my food. I curled into a ball underneath the blanket and thought about the events of the past week. I met Parker, my mom went missing, and we're both in the hospital. I tried to piece together the events of last night.
I remember walking home with Parker and no one being home. I thought that my mom was just in her room so I started dinner. The time for Martin to be home came and he didn't show. I went and checked my mom's room and she wasn't there so I searched the house. When I saw she wasn't there I asked neighbors and no one had seen her. I called Martin and he didn't answer. Finally, I assumed my mom and Martin were out so I waited up. Nightfall came and neither were home. It got really late and I called the police. Someone came and asked me questions and they found my mom. She wanted to kill herself by driving off the rims. I went to the station and wanted to see her but I couldn't. A case worker asked me more questions and finally took me to the hospital. I was finally gonna be able to see my mom. I opened the door to her room and she asked me to help her. I hit the ground and everything went black. I woke up in a hospital bed and still haven't seen my mom.
"Lacey," It was Melody coming in this time. "Your mom is ready if you wanna see her." It was time for me to go. I took a deep breath and got up. A nurse put me in a wheel chair and they wheeled me down to her room.
"Are you ready, Kiddo?" the nurse asked.
"Yes," I told her. They opened the door and wheeled me in.
"Lacey!" my mom shouted
"Hi mom..."
