“What drama for a church huh?” Taylor had commented after I told the doctor what had happened.

I was seated on a bed, a drip attached to my arm as I leaned on the bed rest. Taylor took a spot right next to me and made himself quite cosy despite the fact that the doctor was examining me. I had passed out once the medics arrived. Apparently it was because I stressed myself a too much and my diet doesn’t compensate for the amounts of energy I use. Go figure. But right now my main focus was on Jordan. They rushed her to the ER but brought her out straight away. A curtain divided us and I couldn’t hear a thing on the other side. Is she sleeping?

“Well my boy, you just need to stay here over night before I can give you a clean bill of health,” The doctor informed me.

I nodded subconsciously but Taylor stepped in with what should have been my initial reaction.

“He has to stay here? He only fainted doc doesn’t he just need sleep? You know, a few days off school to rest?”

The doctor shook his head. “I need to monitor him. It will only be overnight so you’ll have your brother back in no time.”

Taylor forgot the whole whine he was about to unleash and echoed with a “brother?”

“I-If it’s alright with you can I sleep now?” I said redirecting my focus to the doctor.

Truth is Taylor and the doctor were my only obstacles to get to that curtain. I had been advised not to cross it but because no one had told me how Jordan was, I wanted to ask her if she was awake or at least see her breathing.

“Sure. It’s good if you feel tired now. Come along chatterbox,” the doctor said to Taylor as he led the way out.

“What? I do not talk a lot!” Taylor protested as he left my room.

I stared at the curtain as the room fell silent, debating whether or not it would be best to check on her. She scared me at the cathedral. Her eyes had rolled back in to her head and she grew pale so fast that I panicked. Plus, the nuns began to scream and stuff so I just passed out. Pretty pathetic but I thought she’d die. I still have to ask her why she cried. But for now I just have to see her. My foot landed on the cold floor, my weight shifting on to it as I stood. I tore my gaze from the curtain for a second to examine the stand my drip was on and it wasn’t mobile. So I took a risk and imitated the doctor, closing the drip to stop it from flowing and grabbing the pack to go with me.

My hand extended and just as I got to brush the fabric with my fingertips, I heard a woman’s voice.

“It was really too tight for you. Fortunately for you, your friend helped you out.”

“Yeah,” Jordan nonchalantly responded.

“I’ll give you some rest for now but I will come back.”

“I don’t need a psychologist so don’t waste your time coming back,” the slightly aggressive reply came from Jordan.

I lowered my hand slightly; hesitant to cross because I now knew she was awake. My heart started pounding at the thought of confronting her. But I have to do it. My swallow became audible as I struggled to keep my mouth dry enough to speak. Maybe pre-warning her would be best.

“H-hey, it’s me. Eden I mean. A-are you ok?” I asked, mentally slapping myself for the stuttering.

She gave me no answer – not that I should have expected one. I took in a deep breath and decided to just go through with my actions. I can apologize later but I want answers now. Grabbing the curtain, I yanked it aside and paused for a shout from Jordan, but there was no word. Instead, there was a shocking discovery.
