Chapter 1 – Emily
“Dan, can you please pour me a glass of champagne?” I asked my boyfriend sweetly.
“Sure, babe.” Dan picked up the champagne bottle and poured some in my glass.
Dan and I were on a double date with our best friends, Phil and Amber. Dan and I had been together for a little over a month, Phil and Amber were celebrating their one-month anniversary tonight.
“Happy one-month anniversary, babe.” Phil said, raising his champagne glass.
“Happy anniversary to you too, Phil.” Amber raised her glass as well.
“Happy anniversary.” Dan and I said at the same time, raising our glasses.
The 4 of us clinked our glasses together and drank. After we all put our glasses down, I could’ve sworn I saw Dan wink at Amber. I’d seen that wink before, many times. That wink made nearly every female fall to their knees and whimper; it did for me on several occasions. Wait a minute, was he flirting with my best friend‽ “No,” I told myself. “Dan wouldn’t do that to you when you’re sitting right next to him, and he /definitely/ wouldn’t do that to Phil on his one-month anniversary with Amber.” I tried to shrug it off, but I couldn’t. Before long I had drained my champagne glass and was filling it up for the 5th or 6th time that evening. After we all finished our champagne and our dessert, Dan and Phil split the check, and we walked down the street to the Tube station.
We walked down the escalator (Amber and I were walking much slower than Dan and Phil because we were in high heels) and waited on the platform for the train to arrive. My mind flashed back to earlier, when Dan winked at Amber. “Relax Emily, you’re overreacting.” I muttered to myself.
Just then, the train arrived. The 4 of us walked on, finding the train car surprisingly empty. We sat down together; me on the far left, Dan on my right, Amber on his right, and Phil on her right. Dan fake-yawned and put his arm around me, like he usually does. But wait—am I hallucinating, or did he put his other arm around Amber‽ I tried to deny what I was seeing, but I couldn’t. There, plain as day, my boyfriend had put his arm around his best friend’s girlfriend. Right in front of the both of us! “Okay Emily, calm down,” I thought to myself. “There’s probably a completely logical explanation as to why Dan has his arm around Amber.” I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. Before I knew it, the train had stopped at our station. For the entire walk to Dan and Phil’s flat, I was debating whether or not I’d break up with Dan right then and there. By the time we reached the door, I had made a decision.
So here's the first chapter of my fanfiction. I hope you like it!
