“DANIEL JAMES HOWELL, HOW DARE YOU!?” Amber’s voice rang throughout the entire apartment; Phil and I heard her loud and clear from the kitchen.

“What do you reckon that was about?” Phil asked me.

“I—I’m not sure.” Actually, I had a sneaking suspicion of what that was about, but I was hoping I was wrong. “I’ll go see. Be right back.”

I took a deep breath and walked down the hall towards Dan’s room, silently praying that Dan wasn’t doing what I thought he was doing.

Once I reached Dan’s room, I pressed my ear to the door and listened hard. Well, Amber was talking. That means her mouth wasn’t busy doing something else. Like kissing my boyfriend!

Calm down, Emily. Don’t jump to conclusions. Even if he did try to kiss her, I trust her to tell him off.

I unballed my fists and listened again. I heard Amber say something about “They’re bad enough separately, but together they’re inexcus—” Suddenly, her voice was cut off.

I grabbed the door handle and gently opened the door a crack. I peeked inside, and I physically had to cover my mouth with my hand to stop from yelling. Dan, my boyfriend, and Amber, my best friend, were kissing. Passionately. Very passionately.

I closed the door and leaned my back against the wall. How could you two do that to me? I thought. I squeezed my eyes shut to stop the tears that were threatening to spill out.

Emily, relax. I told myself. Just wait for them to come out, and you can talk to them about it.

I got up and stood in front of the door, arms crossed over my chest, right as Dan opened the door. “Whatever you do, just don’t tell Emily.”

I know what you two did in there, no need to explain. I wanted to say. Instead, I glared at Dan and said, “Don’t tell me what?”

Short chapter is short; I'm sorry. And also, sorry I didn't update last night; Wattpad was glitching and the story text box didn't show up.
