Chapter 6 – Emily
When Amber told me that Dan had kissed her, I got really angry really quickly. I had pulled out my iPod and put my Revenge playlist on.
After the first 5 songs, Toxic came on. “What the hell would Toxic be doing on my Revenge playlist?” I asked, half to Amber, half to myself.
I only half-heard Amber’s response as I scrolled through the playlist. By the time I got to the bottom of the playlist, I remembered why I put Toxic on my Revenge playlist. I put it on by accident, but I left it on so that it would sort of lighten the mood of my Revenge playlist a bit.
I walked out of the lounge and directly towards Dan’s bedroom. I knocked on the door 3 times.
I heard shuffling inside, then the door opened. As soon as Dan saw it was me, he attempted to close the door again, but I stuck my foot in the way. “Dan, please, I need to talk to you.”
His expression was a combination of sadness, anger, and fear, but mostly sadness. He sighed, sounding defeated, as he let me in. “What is it?”
“Well, I…” I tried to decide how to word my next sentence. “I…I…Oh crap, how do I word this?”
“I know what you’re going to say, Emily.”
“You do?” I asked, shocked. Was it really that obvious that I wanted to give him a second chance?
“Yes, I do. Go ahead, just say it. I can handle it.” Dan looked into my eyes, and I saw a tear about to spill over. Was he—crying?
“I wanted to say…I’m gonna give you another chance. I’m not entirely forgiving you for kissing Amber, but I trust you to not do it again.”
“I understand, I—wait, what?”
“I’m giving you a second chance.”
“But…are you sure?”
“Are you trying to talk me out of this?”
“No?” It sounded more like a question than a statement.
“Good. Just remember, if something like that happens again, then we’re through. Understand?”
He nodded. “Yes, Emily. I promise I won’t do anything like that; I wasn’t thinking.”
No shit. I thought, but I kept my mouth shut. “I love you, Dan.” I said, putting my hands around his neck.
“I love you too, Emily.” He pressed his lips against mine, kissing me passionately. I kissed back, running my hands through his hair. He pulled me closer to him, his hands on my waist.
We pulled apart, breathing hard. He pulled me close, whispering in my ear, “And that’s why I love you.”
He kissed my neck, and I squirmed slightly. “Dan, stop. Please.”
He lifted his lips from my neck and grinned. “Okay, fine.”
I looked at my watch. “Oh crap. It’s getting late; I gotta go.” I kissed Dan on the cheek. “Night Dan.”
“Night babe.” He gave me a peck on the lips and took my hand. He walked me to the front door, where Amber was already waiting.
Phil kissed Amber on the cheek and gave me a hug. “Goodnight girls.”
“Goodnight, boys.” Amber and I said at the same time.
Before the door closed, Dan blew me a kiss and winked. “See you tomorrow,” he mouthed.
