Chapter 15 – Dan

A few seconds after I said that, my phone rang. I quickly glanced at the screen, and noticed the call was from Amber. I pushed Accept and put the phone to my ear.

“Hey Amber, what’s up?” I asked.

“Hello, Daniel.” It was Emily’s voice on the other end of the line.

Whoops. My ex-girlfriend was calling me on my current girlfriend’s phone. That couldn’t be good. “Emily!” Phil had a puzzled look on his face, and I just mouthed the words I don’t know.

“I’m here too!” Amber yelled. It sounded like she was farther away than Emily was. I assumed that Emily was holding the phone and Amber was standing nearby.

“W-what’s happening that’s so important that you two had to call me at 11 pm?” I asked, not sure if I wanted to know the answer.

“Come on, Dan,” Amber said. “Emily and I both know that you were still up anyway.”

“And probably would be until about 5 am,” I heard Emily mutter under her breath.

I chose to ignore Emily’s comment, though we all knew it was true. “Yeah, I was still up. But why call now?”

“Is Phil up?” Emily asked. “We want to talk to him too.”

“Y-yeah, Phil’s right here. Hold on a sec.” I put my phone on Speaker and set it on my bed.

“Um…hi,” Phil said weakly.

“Hi Phil,” Emily and Amber said at the same time.

“Hi E—” Phil started to say, but I got impatient.

“You still haven’t told me why you chose to call now instead of tomorrow.”

“Well,” Emily said, “Amber and I were talking, and…well, why don’t you tell them, Amber?”

Amber cleared her throat. “Well, we were talking about a couple weeks ago, when we caught you two making out in the lounge.” Oh, so that’s what this is about, I thought. “And we were wondering, why would you two go out with us if you had a thing going?”

“No offense intended, we just were wondering,” Emily added quickly.

“Well…how can I explain this?” I thought out loud.

“I don’t know, how can you explain this?” Emily said, and I figured by her tone that, if we were standing face-to-face, she would have her arms crossed over her chest, glaring at me, and raising her eyebrows at me.

Phil looked at me, almost asking for my permission to speak. I nodded once, and he explained everything, from the “incident” while filming “phil is not on fire” in 2009, to the “incident” around the time we met them, to the “incident” two weeks ago.

As soon as he was done, Emily’s response was, “How did I not notice Dan’s literal pain in the ass that night?”

“Ha-ha. I thought I hid my pain pretty well.” I retorted.

Phil turned towards me. “Honestly, no you didn’t. You could barely sit down on the Tube ride to the—”

“Can we please not?” I asked, cutting Phil off mid-sentence. “Honestly, you try walking around after having Phil’s D up your—”

“Dan!” Emily yelled. “Please, I don’t need that mental image.”

“Me neither,” Amber chimed in.

I can think of at least a dozen Phan shippers on Tumblr that would love that mental image, but okay, I thought. “Oops,” I said out loud, “sorry about that.”

“Were there any…more accurate Phan theories circulating Tumblr and Twitter near the time you met me and Emily?” Amber asked after a few seconds of dead silence, and I’ll admit I jumped a little.

“More accurate Phan theories?” I repeated, slightly confused.

“Yeah, like…you know how people always come up with theories about you two? Most of them involving, er, dirty things said and done at your house, in the studio on the radio show after the cameras go off, etc.?”

I nodded, and then I remembered we were talking on the phone and she couldn’t see me. “Well, um, yeah…”

“Were there any of those theories that were closer to the truth than usual at any time recently?”

I thought for a minute. “Not that I noticed, no. Phil?”

“I don’t think so. I’m not really the one that pays attention to all that stuff., or gets smutty phanfiction showing up every so often in my Tumblr tag…” Phil replied, glancing sideways at me.

“Alright, just wondering,” Amber said.

“And you said that this whole thing has been going on since 2009?” Emily added slyly.

“On and off since late October 2009, when we filmed ‘phil is not on fire’, yes.” I answered.

“I KNEW IT!” Emily yelled. “See Amber, I told you!”

“Anyway,” Amber cut in with a yawn, “I think we’d better go. I’m getting kinda tired.”

“Okay. Goodnight Emily, goodnight Amber,” Phil said, yawning a bit himself.

“Night,” I said quickly before I caught the yawn.

“Night Dan, night Phil,” Emily yawned. “Talk to you tomorrow.”

I pushed End and yawned. “I’m not even tired! Why am I yawning?” I asked, more to myself than Phil.

“I don’t know, but I’m tired.” Phil got up and walked towards his room. “Goodnight Dan.”

“Night Phil,” I responded, flopping onto my back. I must’ve been more tired than I thought, because not long after I closed my eyes I feel asleep, still in my jeans and t-shirt.
