Thalia POV
~~~~~~~~~~
The next day showing up to AllSafe I was nervous beyond belief. Someone went out of their way to hack my Facebook profile.
The suspects are too numerous to name.
There's too many people who work at Allsafe for me to automatically know who was showing any hostility towards me.
Cross had made a valid point when we spoke of the hack last night. Just because the person spent their time hacking me doesn't necessarily mean their intentions were hostile. Maybe they just wanted to know more about me the new person.
As I quietly observe those around me, I don't get a vibe that there's someone specifically around me paying too much attention to what I'm doing. Helen Myers sits two seats away, sadly watching her computer screen.
It's as though this job is slowly killing the older woman on the inside. She hasn't glanced my way once. I've been paying the closest attention to her since she's my closest seat mate, but after scratching her chin for a good amount of time, the woman proceeds to sip on her extra-large soda she got from Quick-Q.
Larry Dingam wasn't any better of a suspect. The half hour I spent multitasking of working and watching him, the man spent some of his free time trying to pick his nose without drawing attention to himself.
There are only two people that truly stand out to me. Angela Moss, and Ollie Parker. Those are the only two AllSafe employees who've made a consistent effort to get to know me. No one else really pays me much attention.
I originally thought the two were just curious about their new co-worker, but maybe there was more to it.
Although as I get up to grab a cup of water in the employee lounge, it seems doubtful that Ollie Parker is the hacker. As I inconspicuously watch him, he seems to be playing air guitar while mildly singing some Maroon 5 song under his breath.
He doesn't seem smart enough to accomplish cracking into my firewall. He doesn't have the patience that taking time to get into a complicated system would require.
The top suspect for me is Angela Moss. She seems more intelligent in regards to computer programing as she lets on. As she enters the conference room next, she immediately gives me an excited wave.
"Ah! I'm so excited you agreed to come this weekend! It's going to be a blast, and it's so great to actually have some younger ladies around the office again." She grins, obviously referring to middle-aged women in the office who've seemed to given up on life.
"It'll be nice seeing people - I'm kind of quiet, though." I say quietly with a nod, giving a small hint to the antisocial behavior I'm intending to display at this upcoming party.
Am I antisocial? Not in the slightest. I have the ability to kick-start a conversation with absolutely anyone.
After a brief time with them, I can manipulate the situation into seeming like me and the person I'm speaking with are long lost friends. But I don't care to know any of these people I temporarily work with. Maybe that's why Angela hacked me...
"So, how was your night?" Angela yawns, going over to the company kuerig machine to fix herself a cup of coffee.
"Uninteresting." I say meekly, adjusting my hideous glasses.
"You're not a talker, are ya?" Angela grins lightly.
"I've always been quiet." I agree with a small nod.
Another complete lie, one that Angela never needs to know about.
"You remind me of my friend Elliot." She yawns lightly, mixing creamer into her Styrofoam cup filled to the brim.
Ollie perks his head up, giving a shrug. "I guess I can see it. They both have this quiet nature to them. Although I think Elliot doesn't like me." He whispers, as if this Elliot has super-sonic hearing.
I nearly want to snicker. Judging by his comment, he must get the impression that I don't think he's an idiot.
"Ohh he does. He's just a little withdrawn sometimes. He's brilliant, though." Angela nods, sipping from her cup. "The things he can do with a computer." She mutters, taking another long sip.
Idle chitchat begins to take place between the two, before I find myself bored enough to actually want to return to my uncomfortable chair just to get out of listening to these two. A brief flicker of wonder hits me as I let my eyes wander to the seat of Elliot Alderson. He stares at his computer, his long fingers typing away on the keyboard in front of him. He's oblivious to everything.
I suppose in in a way, his hacking me would be brilliant. It's always the quiet person you don't really expect anything out of. But as I watch Ollie approach him in a bid to kick-start a conversation, I lose interest in Elliot as a suspect. The guy seems too uninteresting to actually take seriously.
