Blinking her eyes open, Thalia found she was in a dimly lit room with light streaming in through windows. Her head was pounding mercilessly, while ribs on her right side were aching terribly. Allowing her eyes to adjust, she found she was in a small hospital room. Her arms hooked up to monitors while she was dressed in a flimsy nightgown while covered with thin hospital blankets. Thalia's long dark hair was neatly in a side braid, causing her to wonder who on Earth actually took advantage of her unconsciousness to fiddle with her hair.

"Elliot, who is she?" A voice asked softly.

Even though last night was only coming back to her slowly, she recognized the voice as Shayla Nico's.

"She's.....a co-worker." Elliot finally says, his voice just as quiet as Shayla.

"A co-worker you carried to a taxi, and then to the emergency room?" Shayla fished, sounding skeptical even though she was near whispering.

Thalia frowned, realizing they were talking about her. Had Elliot Alderson really done all of that?

"Yeah." Elliot answers blandly.

"Jesus Elliot, I don't get you. One minute you're asking me to dinners at your bosses house and asking me to be your girlfriend, and then the next minute you're like totally into someone else - you're throwing out weird vibes, okay?" Shayla says, still remaining quiet.

"Are you....jealous?" Elliot asks, seeming surprised.

Shayla says nothing, causing Thalia to lean her head to try and see the two out in the hallway. This was all too bizarre to her. "I just don't get why you allowed yourself to be Fernando's punching bag for this chick."

"I wasn't a punching bag. He only hit me once."

Shayla sighed loudly. "You got on his bad side, Elliot!"

"Bad side? He doesn't have a good side-"

"Getting him mad will only get you in trouble."  Shayla whispered crossly.

"Him getting mad at me isn't as bad as raping you or beating up her." Elliot counters in his own whisper. Shayla must not have anything to add to that, for she gives no response.
"I'm sorry." Elliot says, breaking the silence. "He doesn't get a pass. He hurt you. He kicked her. He kicked Natalia while she was already unconscious and bleeding. Don't you see he needs to be stopped-"

"Yeah, yeah I do. But I don't want you to do anything, please just leave it-"

Thalia tuned them both out to feel the right side of her body. That's why her ribs were aching - Vera kicked her after she hit her head and fell unconscious.

"He can't be allowed to walk around hurting women, Shayla." Elliot says, his voice slightly louder.

"Who are you worried about, me or her?"

"He looked at her ID, he knows where she lives." Elliot hisses. "While he's still around, neither of you are okay."

During this time, Thalia carefully unplugs her monitor from the wall to avoid making any loud beeping noises as she unhooked her IV in her arm. Stepping out of bed, her bare feet hit the cold ground as she quietly made her way to where she found her clothes laid out on a chair. Her jeans were folded, while her long sleeved shirt was heavily sprinkled with blood. That must have been why Elliot took her to the hospital - it looked like it was an ugly wound. Reaching her hand up to examine the wound, Thalia feels a long stitched up area across the side of her forehead.
Quickly getting dressed, Thalia slowly slips her boots on while rolling up her sleeves. Going over to her purse to scan the inside, she's dismayed to find fifty dollars besides the two-hundred she gave Fernando is now missing. The bastard must've stole from her after she was down for the count. Eyes widening, Thalia scurries around her purse  with worried hands. One of her best throwing knives is missing.

"I'm going to kill him just for that." Thalia hisses to herself, angry to find both knives are gone. The knives were so very sharp along with extendable. You could keep them easily concealed. They were so easy to throw Thalia's never missed a target with them. She never missed with any knife, but she favored those two knives for being  the most fun to throw.

Throwing her long purse strap over her shoulder, Thalia made her way out of the room while ignoring both Elliot and Shayla arguing. Their talking stopped once Thalia made herself a good distance down the hall.
"What the hell...?" Shayla said.

"Hey.....Natalia!" Elliot called, following behind her.

"Um...I don't think you should be out of bed..." Shayla tries, causing Thalia to turn on her heel.

"And I think you should leave town, and go into hiding. That's the only thing that's gonna save your bony ass for when Fernando comes back. " Thalia counters in a growl. Shayla's big eyes widen, causing Thalia to feel slightly bad for being mean to the poor girl.

"Oh, you think you know what I should do after seeing me for one night?" Shayla counters with a cross of arms. "Don't  get mad at me because you were the one who back talked to Fernando."

Thalia saw red. She felt like absolute shit where she didn't feel she could run down the hall let alone hold herself upright,  but right about now she was thinking of planting her fist right on Shayla Nico's  nose. The only reason Thalia even verbally sparred the disgusting Vera brother was so Shayla wasn't smacked around further!
Thalia's lip curled in disgust. "You think I'm wrong? Nando Vera doing a hate-rape on you means he's having you watched. Rape is his special punishment for girls of his who don't listen. Whatever it is you're doing in life, he thought you needed punishment. Guaranteed,  there's already someone of his gang keeping an eye on you. If you were smart, leave town before your head is on a pike." Thalia says through clenched teeth, enjoying the hollow, scared look Shayla displays. Stomping down the hall and to the nurses station, Thalia doesn't bother looking back at either her or Elliot.

"Where do I go to sign out?" Thalia asks in a meaner tone then she intended for a nurse. The old woman looks up from paperwork with an apologetic smile. "Hold on, miss."

Thalia finds Elliot followed her. "What were you hoping to  gain from scaring her?" he asked quietly.

Tiredly turning her head to watch Elliot, Thalia resists laughing. "Aw. Now, that's adorable. You think I was just trying to scare your girlfriend."
She shook her head. Little did Elliot Alderson realize, you're usually as good as dead when you peddled drugs for the Vera's. They didn't like leaving paper trails for the cops to find. In order to keep their asses covered, they'll eliminate working girls who peddle their drugs to make it easier on themselves.
"Sorry, Elliot. That's her harsh reality. If she doesn't leave town, she's as good as dead." Thalia shrugs uncaringly. He can believe her or not. It was no skin off her back.

Elliot stares at Thalia. "Do you feel better for making her cry?"

Lifting an eyebrow, Thalia peers around Elliot to find Shayla was indeed crying in the hallway. It smudged her makeup as the tears gently cascaded down her pretty face.
Turning back to the strange young man decked in a black hoodie watching her, she shrugged. "You know, I think it does. Wow, I think my headache is going away, too." Thalia nodded seriously. "Hallelujah, praise Jesus."

"Why are you like this?"

This question from Elliot got Thalia to laugh. It was one of the cruel mocking variety that caused Elliot to flinch.
She didn't know how to answer him. There were so many bad things she's seen in her twenty-four years she wouldn't even know where to start. Dr. Phil would probably run for the hills if she had ten minutes of his time.
Moving away, Thalia returns to the nurses station to happily sign some release papers.
