It's been two days since Thalia broke into Elliot's apartment. Ignoring the young man's strange need to hack her seemed to Thalia the best solution. What else was there to do? She couldn't hurt him with emotional blackmail - the guy didn't really have any familial or friendly ties with the exception of Angela Moss. Thalia couldn't hurt him physically, he seemed indifferent to her threats of physical abuse anyhow. The only option Thalia really had was working with the weasel to wiggle herself out of Fsociety's grasp. It was going to be tricky - Darlene seemed to know where Thalia lived along with knowing everything about her secrets.
The strange Elliot Alderson fully agreed to helping Thalia get out of the blackmail, but she wasn't entirely certain why he agreed - her best guess was either fear or boredom.
She felt certain she rattled his feathers when she pulled the knife on him, but when he removed her hand from his throat, she sensed no fear from him. Amusement perhaps, but no fear. Her other opinion on why Elliot would help her was his own boredom. She could see that option being more plausible of anything else.
The guy didn't have friends. He had no internet trail indicating a secret life full of hidden excitement - his entire existence actually seemed pretty sad in Thalia's opinion. He worked, and communicated with Angela Moss and his drug dealer Shayla Nico. Other than that, the guy didn't seem to talk with anyone else.
Thalia couldn't really judge the whole not having friends bit, but she actually had true reason for holding no close ties to normal people. Her line of work could easily get an innocent person killed.
Thalia didn't dare try to hack Elliot with the help of CrossWrire or anyone else she knew - the chances were that Elliot was more talented at Black-Hat hacking than she gave him credit for. Maybe if she tried hacking him, Elliot could turn the tables on her and demolish everything she worked so long and hard to achieve. There was a chance Elliot was more dangerous than Darlene and Mr. Robot combined.
Even though Darlene's offer to launch Tyrell's head on a pike was more than tempting, Thalia didn't like being in Darlene's control. She could help her and the mysterious Mr. Robot and still find herself screwed over.
As Thalia clicked across her computer keyboard while trying to lose herself into the boring office work that came attached to AllSafe, Thalia found Gideon Goddard was approaching her.
Clenching her jaw, Thalia tried to remain calm. Gideon was a kind soul - trusting, maybe even to a fault. He questioned Thalia on her not going to Angela's birthday party to her dismay. He was curious why she wouldn't want to mingle with coworkers. Do all bosses care that much about their employees socializing, or had Thalia come across a unique employer?
She gave Gideon a somewhat pitiful explanation that she was an overly quiet individual due to coming from an abusive foster home. She was therefore socially awkward to an unfortunate extent. It wasn't her best lie at any means, but it was enough to make the gullible Gideon teary eyed before he embraced Thalia in a rather unfortunate hug.
If he was intelligent in Thalia's opinion, he would've seen through her fake sob story to know she was bullshitting. No one who actually comes from an abusive background openly uses it as their cover story. Eventually, people would try to pry more information about the matter, and the would lead to lie after lie to cover up the original lie.
Not that the abusive foster homes story was entirely a lie for Thalia, she sure as hell had some real horror stories to share if Gideon pushed, but it wasn't the truth. Thalia wasn't socially awkward based on being fucked up by living with crack addicts as a kid - she actually wasn't socially awkward in the slightest.
"Hey there Natalia, how are things today sweetie?" Gideo asked in his kind voice.
Thalia kept her cool even though her insides were burning with distaste. It seemed Gideon was projecting fatherly feelings onto her for some bizarre reason. Maybe her abusive background was too much to reveal. Maybe her homely clothing options of baggy sweaters and long flowing skirts was also too much - added with glasses, she now comes across as too vulnerable. A meek lamb that would be easy for the slaughter if she didn't have others willing to protect her. As if she wasn't having a fucked up enough time in life already without Gideon Goddard wanting to act fatherly towards her. That was definitely not something she needed.
As Gideon watched Thalia, he gave her an apologetic smile.
"I'm well, thank you for asking." Thalia answered with just the right return smile. "What can I do for you, Gideon?"
Gideon runs a hand through his hair, looking even more apologetic. "We have upper management coming through the office this week so I wanted to give you a little heads up so we didn't catch our newbie offguard with all the faces coming through."
"Oh." Thalia said, nodding politely. "I understand, thank you so much for thinking to let me know, I really appreciate it."
Another right kind of smile, and Thalia just knew she completely won over Gideon. It was all in his facial expression that read; She's just too sweet.
Thalia could never say a word to any of the people who work here ever again, and yet she bet Gideon wouldn't mind because Thalia showed him respect. In a way, there wasn't a disliking the guy. He cared about each and everyone of his employees in a caring matter that Thalia was certain most bosses wouldn't care to do.
"Oh it's no problem." Gideon waves off lightly while obviously happy Thalia was at least talkative towards him. She had her theory that Ollie Parker had gone around telling everyone that she wasn't a real talker - if Thalia was a real bitch, she'd tell Elliot Alderson his time would be better spent hacking his good buddy Angela's cheating boyfriend. There was probably quite a bit of dirt to pull out on the jackass.
"We're actually going to have Tyrell Wellick here, how exciting!" Gideon enthuses, hurriedly walking away before stopping to talk to an Asian man a few seats away.
His comment caused a cold shudder to attack Thalia's spine. Tyrell Wellick - here at Allsafe. The smarmy bastard oozed elf confidence while in public - he didn't have much for himself in other places. Thalia once stalked him to witness the guy slap the fuck out of himself while rehearsing an interview in an executive bathroom at E Corp.
