*Just a friendly reminder, I wrote this on my iPad. Because I type quickly I do have a few spelling mistakes, so I apologise for that*
"Megan! Help me! Please Megan!" I shoot up with sweat dripping of my forehead, I quickly stand up making sure not to make a noise.
"Momma?" I hear Rachel's soft voice speak, I look at her.
"Shh, it's okay sweetie." I say softly as she starts to go back to sleep.
"When are we gonna leave Megan?" I turn to see Darren, my 18 year old son, standing by the door way of my pickup truck.
"What have I said about calling me Megan?" I give him a look.
"Don't call it you because it's rude blah blah blah whatever. Answer my question." He snaps as I roll my eyes.
"At day light."
"Why then!? Why not now?" He shouts.
"Don't you shout at me!"
"Or what? You'll leave me to die like you did with Auntie Laura?!"
"You know that isn't true!" He scoffs. "Rachel? Sweetie? Come one wake up." Rachel slowly opens her eyes. "Hey baby girl."
"Hi momma. Where's Darr?" She looks around for her big brother and soon smiles when she sees him, he shakes his head and sits in the truck. Me and Rachel had fell asleep in the back of my truck, it wasn't really comfy though. Rachel lets a few tears fall down her cheek before making her way to me, I pick her up and go to the driver's side of the truck. I open the door and place her in the booster seat in between me and Darren, I get in and start the truck.
After about an hour's journey we come to a stop.
"Balls." I sigh and turn off the engine.
"Why we stop momma?" Rachel asks.
"Yeah Megan, tell her why we stopped." Darren snaps as he gives me a look.
"We just need some supplies that's all."
"In other words we have no gas." Darren says as he gets out of the truck with Rachel in his arms.
"We'll find some okay? I promise."
"Yeah whatever." We start walking forward, after what seems like miles we finally stumble upon an abandoned convenience store.
"Megan..."
"Darren, what have I sa-"
"MOMMA!" I quickly turn to see a walker getting closer to them, I quickly pull out my knife and stab it in the head. It drops to the ground as more appear.
"Shit." I mumble. "Run to the building now!" Darren makes a run for it with Rachel in his arms, I follow behind. He tries to open the door but no use.
"What do we do now?" He yells.
"Move!" He moves just in time for me to kick the door open, we scramble inside. I quickly shut the door and lean up against it. "Find something!" I yell as walkers were trying to push their way through the door, Darren looks around quickly before coming back with an iron and metal rod. He places one through one handle of the doors as I move then places the other right after.
"Now what?" I sigh and look at my surroundings, my eyes light up.
"Jackpot." I speak, there was so much stuff here untouched. "Grab what you can." Rachel stays with me while Darren grabs a trolley and goes off on his own, after about half an hour we had 2 trolleys full each and a basket each too. Rachel had her own little backpack, we had enough supplies to last us a few months.
"Now we have supplies how do we take it back without getting eaten?" Darren asks. Crap, didn't think of that.
"What about these momma?" I turn to see Rachel stood by an open door, I quickly run to her side to make sure nothing got to her. I soon see that she had found an old auto shop connected to this shop.
"This is brilliant!" I state as we walk in with our trolleys and baskets, I get the largest car they had which was a Range Rover, it didn't take long before Darren hotwired it. We placed all the stuff in the boot and car seats, making sure there was room for us to sit, luckily there was a little trailer which we connected to the back of the car so we put the rest of the things in that. Thankfully there was some petrol which I needed for the truck, we start driving back to where I left my truck.
"Where'd you learn to hot wire?" I ask Darren.
"A place." He shrugs.
"Called?"
"My friends." I nod and keep driving, the rest of the ride was silent. Eventually we reach the truck, we get out and start filling the truck with the things that were in the car. Rachel was sat in her seat waiting for me and Darren to finish, he was attaching the trailer to my truck while I filled my truck up with enough petrol. We both get in the truck and I start the engine.
"Where to now momma?" Rachel asks as she fiddles with her zip on her coat.
"Anywhere baby, we'll find somewhere. I promise."
"Will we stay there this time? For longer than a couple days?" I nod, she lets out a giggle before closing her eyes for the long drive ahead of us.
-4 days later-
The last 4 days have been hard, Rachel keeps thinking I broke the promise I made her but I reassure her that we were just making pit stops so we could rest and then get back to driving as soon as we could, we had ended up near some mountain/wood area for the last couple of days. I saw a bit of smoke coming from there so that's where I followed, hoping either that whoever was there had gone by now.
"Momma I need to pee." Rachel speaks.
"Hold on baby, I'll stop in a minute." She nods her head, I start to slow the truck down until it comes to a stop.
"Can I go now?" Rachel pleads.
"By that bush." Darren lets her out and takes her to a bush close by, he stands watch making sure nothing came out at her. I look around and see a group of people talking amongst themselves, luckily they hadn't noticed us. I get out of the truck.
"All done momma!" Rachel says a bit too loudly, the group turn their heads in our direction.
"Get in the truck." I command as I take my knife out.
"What why?" Rachel starts to get scared.
"Just do it." Darren lifts her up and gets in the truck with her as 2 people walk up to me. "Can I help?" I snap while swirling my knife about making sure that they knew I wasn't scared to do anything if it meant protecting my children.
"Who are you?" The man asks.
"Your worst nightmare if you try anything."
"Feisty one huh." He smirks a little before shaking his head. "Just go if you're not gonna be nice."
"Gladly." I turn and walk to the driver's side of the truck.
"Wait!" The lady calls out, I turn around.
"Yes?" I question.
"Join us, please?"
"Lori no." The man speaks up.
"Look I'll be truthful, you have supplies, surely enough to last you a while. We don't really have much, we need help and you have kids. So does our group, please. We might not have much to offer you, but I'm begging please."
