"You don't have to be rich
To be my girl
You don't have to be cool
To rule my world
Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your
kiss"After dropping Trinity off, I returned home.
"Hey, mama." I said, entering the kitchen
"Hey, baby. Where's the girl?"
"What girl?"
"Trinity"
I raised my eyebrow in confusion. "Why would Trinity be here?"
My mom put her hands on her hip. "Because you invited her over for dinner tonight."
My mouth went in an o shape. "I forgot to invite her."
"Well, you better call her. I'm not cooking all of this for nothing," she replied, gesturing to the stove and the oven.
She cooked baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens, fried chicken, sweet potatoes, and homemade cornbread.
"The food looks great mom."
"Thank you, but I didn't cook this for you. I cooked for Trinity, so call her"
"I don't have her number."
"You do have a car and an address"
"What if she says no?"
"Xabriel! Go, now!"
I sighed, pulling my keys out of my pocket. I was nervous Trinity would say no. I just told her I would take things slow with her. I didn't want to ambush her by asking her to meet my family.
"Alright, I'm going to leave now"
"Okay, drive safe honey" my mom replied as I closed the door behind myself.
I arrived at Trinity's place in under ten minutes.
I parked my car and took a deep breath, trying my best to encourage myself and calm my nerves.
When I approached the front door, I froze up. I've never been nervous when it came to girls, but Trinity always brought it out of me.
"You can do this" I mumbled to myself before knocking on the door.
I heard a click, which meant someone unlocked the door. A few seconds later, I was face to face with Serenity. I internally sighed, wishing Trinity answered the door. I was in no mood for Serenity's attitude. Every time she saw me, she made it known that she hated me.
"Hey Xabriel" Serenity smiled
Did she just smile? That's definitely new. I don't know if I should be happy or afraid.
"Trinity's in the room, I'll go get her" she opened the door and gestured to the couch. "Make yourself at home."
I took a seat on the gray couch as Serenity disappeared upstairs.
