The Name Game
The ball just managed to miss the bottle. The bottle tipped a tiny bit before landing back into place and the ball landed softly on the ground.
The man tutted as he went down to pick it up. "Bad throw missy, do you want to try again?" He asked with a sneer.
Annabelle straightened up and eyeballed the man. "Why of course, that was only the first attempt! I'm not going to give up that easily!
She took the ball back off the man and once again threw it. This time as it whizzed through the air, it just knocked the bottle before it bounced back onto the ground. The bottle again tipped but did not fall over.
Annabelle just looked at it in frustration. "Sod this!" She cried and walked over leaving the three of us to stare at her in shock.
"Where's she going?" Ross cried before running after her. "Come on Jamie!" He cried.
I just watched him and saw Bryn slowly walk after him. She looked back at me but I just shrugged my shoulders. I didn't know what was going on with Annabelle.
I watched the two of them go and decided that it was probably in my best interest to follow but the man stopped me in my tracks.
"You know she still had one more go, you can do it for 'er son."
"Me?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes you, sonny. Now go and do it so you can all bugger off." The man replied and passed me the ball before I could refuse.
Taking a deep breath, I let the ball go watching it for the third time and hoping that it would knock the bottle off this time. Luck seemed to be in my favour as it bounced off. The bottle rattled and fell to the floor.
I just stared in shock. I had actually won?
The man just nodded at me. "Choose a prize for the girl, sonny. I don't have all day."
Looking at the prizes, I noticed an old dusty photo frame and thought about the photograph we had taken. I pointed to it. "I'll take that."
The man looked at me with a frown. "Really? That old thing?"
"Yes."
He just grumbled and went to retrieve it but gave it to me nonetheless. I thanked him and started to take after in the direction of where all the others had gone.
The first thing I saw was Ross standing over Annabelle, she was sitting down muttering to herself but she didn't seem upset or anything like that. Bryn was hovering around but made sure that she was nowhere near Ross.
"Annabelle?" I asked kneeling on the ground. Luckily we were out of the way and sitting by some grass. People passed giving the four of us curious glances.
"What?" She said with a sigh.
I smiled and presented the photo frame to her. "I won it for you since you walked off, you still had a go."
Annabelle smirked. "Well I was just letting you have a go and the prize is nice, perfect for that picture." She winked holding onto it.
"Now we're all together, we just go sit down and talk. We are kind of in the way." Ross piped and Annabelle nodded her head at that.
"Well come on then, let's go!" Annabelle jumped up and lead us through the twists and turns of the fair once more. She lead us to the front of the park and patted at one of the old rusty benches that looked like they were going to fall but still we all sat down. Ross perched on the end just beside Bryn who looked very uncomfortable.
