Detentions
I finished pulling on my school's black blazer and walked down the stairs, making sure that my white shirt was untucked and looked as messy as possible. It was silent as I walked into the kitchen; my mother was still asleep and she wouldn't be awake until I had headed off to school.
Ross had texted me about half an hour ago saying that he wouldn't be long, I rechecked it to see if it had texted again. I had time then. I sighed as I looked around for something in the cupboards to have for breakfast. There was an opened cereal packet but when I picked up to look inside it, the cereal was all gone. There were only two tiny flakes left at the bottom. I put it back and carried on rummaging until my fingers grasped around a small bar right at the back of the cupboard. Pulling it out, it was a small cereal bar that I quickly ate.
A beep from my phone told me that Ross was finally here so I pulled on my shoes and raced around to the front where I could meet him.
He was on his bmx, his tie wrapped around his head, top button undone because we all thought it was cool back then; to defy society somehow and not follow the rules that school forced. I had my school bag on my back and made sure to balance myself from the additional weight as I got on the pegs.
"I see you haven't stopped putting that ridiculous tie around your head." I muttered as Ross began to ride off.
"I know I look stupid, it's only so my tie doesn't flap into my face when we're going down the hill to school, you know how windy it gets when you're riding against the wind!" He said with a laugh and started to pedal back even further. He teared down the hill, the wind whipping in our faces and we laughed.
The usual route to school was down the hill, along an alleyway and through the streets to our small high school which only housed around 600 students. However it was the closest one to my house and made it easier to get back home as soon as possible. It wasn't long until Ross arrived at the gates and I hopped off.
"I'm going to put my bike in the bike shed, I'll meet you in the cafeteria." Ross replied as he too got off and began to walk to the bike shed which was a dingy little hut that nobody liked going into.
I began to walk into the school yard, it was a horrible old building that was built in the sixties, it had around three main buildings that rose up to three floors. It looked like a prison from the outside but it was the school that I went too.
As I approached the cafeteria, I heard a voice call my name.
"Jamie! Jamie!" She shouted and then a felt a slap on my back.
I turned around to see Susie smiling her usual malicious grin. She had put her bleach blonde hair into a bun that looked like it was about to fall off her head at any moment. Her makeup was done to perfection as usual, blue eyeshadow and eyeliner that looked almost impossible to do. Like me, her shirt was not tucked in but her tie was quite big and she had her top button done. She also wasn't wearing her blazer because it was quite warm.
"Oh hey Susie." I greeted turning around and rubbing my back.
Susie pouted. "Where's Ross? He's usually with you, isn't he?" She said looking around as if he was going to appear out of thin air.
"He'll be here, don't tell me he's going to be your next victim?"
Susie laughed. "No I just wanted to ask him a question about some English work that we had, that's all."
Just at the moment, I looked over her shoulder and saw Ross approaching. He saw Susie and began to walk very slowly. "I'll go the other way." He managed to mouth to me. I couldn't do anything or else Susie would turn around.
