Secrets We Share
We arrived in Blackpool in pretty good time, Annabelle had been ignoring our conversation for the whole journey. I was a little annoyed with the fact that I was the problem. I wanted to apologise but somewhere without Ross and Bryn. Ross might make light of the situation and I really didn't want it overblown.
Teal was waiting for us at the train station. She pushed my mum over as we came out of the station.
"Well how was that train ride?" She asked.
"A bit boring. We should get to the hotel." Ross said yawning.
Teal nodded and we all followed her as we began to go to the hotel. My first impression of Blackpool wasn't good. The streets felt dirty as they were littered with rubbish and chewing gum. The houses felt empty, most of them boarded up along the streets. However as we got closer to the beach front, I noticed the hotels and houses here had been taken care of. Flowers stood blooming in the windows. The floor looked shiny and clean. It was a dull day but the sea looked peaceful. Dark blue lapping against the sand. It was also loud and noisy with trams coming past and people crossing the street in every direction.
We had taken Teal's car, although there wasn't enough room. We had all squished in the back and no-one had caught us yet.
"Maybe we should come back this year to the see the lights. I haven't been since my first date." My mother reminisced staring out at the beach front.
"First date with who?" I asked.
"Your father. He was a very sweet man." She said with a sigh and then the window was gone. No more looking into the past.
Teal pulled up at a small bed and breakfast. It wasn't too far from the beach and was a large old victorian house. Outside it had the hotel's name splayed across it and windows with the red curtains pulled across. Inside we checked in with all of our bags and went up the stairs. It didn't have a lift so some hotel lift carried my mother up the stairs. It was a bit embarrassing for her but it was over soon enough. I helped the girls drag their bags. Annabelle still didn't say a word to me.
The room was a typical standard bed and breakfast. There were two single beds with a plain white duvet covering them. It had a desk with a tv on it and a bathroom in the corner. A few pictures to add to the decor. The nice touch about it was that it had a balcony that let you look over to the seafront. Ross was lying on the bed, his bag underneath the bed with a few clothes piled on the floor.
"Aren't you going to start unpacking?" I asked as I put my bag on the bed. I began to unpack the clothes and was done with ten minutes. Ross hadn't even moved or answered my question yet.
"No, I want a nap first." He said at last.
"Okay then." I sighed and I too lay on the bed, looking at the ceiling. I had to wonder what was going through Annabelle's mind, had what I said really hurt her? It was only a little thing but even the little things could affect people and maybe Annabelle was one of those people.
Soon I got off the bed and headed over to the girl's room. It was right across from ours on the other side of the corridor. Brynn answered the door and let me in. Annabelle was nowhere to be found.
"Isn't Annabelle here?" I asked sitting on the bed.
Bryn crossed her arms and shook her head. "She said she wanted to go for a walk to clear her head."
"Did she say anything about me?" I asked.
"No. I don't think it has anything to do with you Jamie."
