Chapter 21: Labour

Mayas pov:
My waters have broken in in labour. I shout for Eldon then realise he's not here. I calm myself down before calling the ambulance.

" Hi my names Maya Baldesarra and my waters just broke," I say into the phone.
" Hi Maya I'm Anna who's at home with you?" She asks calmly.
" Just my 3 year old daughter," I say as a contraction comes on.

" Okay where do you live? How many weeks until your due date?" Anna asks.
" I live at," I say my address. " And two weeks away," I say before taking some deep breathes.
" Okay Maya there's traffic on the road but the ambulance is coming as fast as possible," She says and I call for Skye.

" Skye could you get mummy some towels?" I ask her.
" Mummy are you hurt?" Skye asks.
" I'm okay Skye, I'm having a baby," I say before wincing in pain.
" Maya I think you should call your family," Anna says over the phone.
" Okay I'm on it," I say and Skye runs to get the home phone for me. I quickly out on doc mcstuffins on the ipad for Skye and get her to Sit down on her little chair by the bed.

I call my mum first.
" Mum, please come, I'm in labour right now!" I say.
" Maya wheres Eldon?" My mum asks.
" We had an argument he's not here," I cry into the phone.
" Maya I'm coming,"
" Can you call Eldons parents and find Eldon!" I say crying.
" Will do Maya," My mum says before hanging up.

An excruciating pain comes on and I scream. I stop just as Skye looks up.
" Mummy!" Skye yells and I breathe in and out.
" Skye I'm okay it's gone now," I say and she goes back to watching her show. I hate putting her through this.

Suddenly I hear the paramedics rush in.
" Maya Baldesarra?" they Shout.
" I'm in the far room in the corridor," I yell between breathes.
" Maya I'm a midwife Laura, okay so your a two centimetres from pushing it's too close to get you to hospital, we are going to have to do it here," She says and I try to stay calm.

" Can someone take my child Skye out?" I whisper.
" Sure Piper can you?" Colton my doctor asks.
" Skye look this is Piper she's going to play with you for a bit," I say.
Skye walks out with Piper and I blow her a kiss.

" Okay Maya one centimetre to go hoe far apart are your contractions?" She asks.
" 30 seconds and there killing," I whisper.
" It's too late to give you epidural," Laura says.
" It's okay," I say quietly.
" Maya!" I hear my parents and Michelle rush in.
" Mum, Dad, Michelle!" I say.
" Your okay Maya you can do this," My mum says.
" Dad can you go with Skye?" I can barely whisper now.
" Sure May," Dad replies.

" Okay Maya get ready to push," Laura says. My mum grabs hold of my hand and I give one push.
" Well done Maya, Mrs Baldesarra she's on no epidural so this hurts," Laura says.

I hear people walk in but my eyes are closed and I push again not saying a thing.
" We can see the head!" Laura says.
" Keep going Maya!" another nurse says.

Suddenly I feel a gentle hand interlock into mine. I look over at Eldon tears in my eyes.
" Get ready to do one last push Maya," Laura says.
I push giving a little ow before the babies out.
" It's a girl Maya!" I breathe out loudly. " You hear that May we have another beautiful girl!" Eldon says gently and I rest my head on his shoulder. He plays with my hair and they cut the cord off.

They clean the baby off before passing her to me.

I cradle her in my arms. And give her a gentle kiss. Everyone ahhs while I cuddle with my baby.

Skye then comes running in.
" Mummy you had the baby!" She says excited and jumps onto the head.
" Yeah look it's your little baby sister," I say smiling. I gently pass the newborn over to Eldon. They look so cute together.

" What's her name?" Skye asks.
" Eldon I think I know," I say.
" Summer Elizabeth Maya Lupien," Eldon says.
As Eldon says her name Summer opens her eyes for the first time, baby blue eyes.
