Chapter 23 ✵
Wardell ✵
"Steph baby are you okay?" Ayesha asked me for the first time in a week.
I've been a little depressed since I last seen Leslie. I just miss her so much and I'm upset she doesn't even want to be around me.
"I'm fine." I lied laying my head flat on the pillow.
"Okay well Klay's here. I'm sending him up." She told me before disappearing out of the doorway.
Ayesha has been getting on my nerves lately. I honestly don't even know why I keep her around. She doesn't do anything but ignore my feelings. She knows I'm upset yet she wants to ignore it.
After a couple of seconds laying down I heard Klay come into my room.
"Hey man! Where the hell have you been?" Klay yelled coming over to the bed.
"In bed." I replied back.
"Haha very funny I know that. The coach has been on my ass to get you to practice and every time I call you ignore it! What has been going on with you?" He questioned his normally pale face turning a dark red.
I shrugged my shoulders.
"Nothing's going on." I lied turning my head facing away from his.
I heard him groan and I felt myself being lifted up into a sitting position.
"Is this about that girl man? Leslie." He asked clearly frustrated.
I shook my head no.
"Man....you've got to let her go. She obviously moving on with her life. She doesn't even play ball more. She's probably trying to get away from you." Klay told me making me turn and look at him.
"Wait what?" I asked jumping up from the bed.
"She quit basketball about two or three months back. Didn't you hear about it? It was everywhere." Klay asked with a shock look on his face.
"I didn't hear anything about it. I have to go." I told him leaving him standing in shock.
I ran around the room picking up clothes to go over to Leslie's house.
"Where do you think you're going?" Klay asked with a smirk on his face as he watched me pick up the clothes.
"I have to know why....basketball meant everything to her. She can't just give up." I explained to him before running into the bathroom and closing the door.
"Whatever just make it to practice tomorrow or I'll be dragging you there." Klay said behind the door most likely leaving after.
I turned on the hot water jumping into the shower.

After my shower I quickly got dressed and made my way over to Leslie's house.
Her quitting basketball almost makes me angry. She told me how much she loved basketball and it's sad that she would just give it up. I said this before and I will say it again she's my favorite female basketball player. She's not only giving up on me but she's also giving up on her fans and I can't have that.
Once I got to her house I quickly jumped out of the car and ran up to her door.
I knocked rather loudly because I didn't know if she's gonna hear it or not.
"Hello, who is it?" She called from behind the door.
"It's me." I said.
For some reason I'm nervous and I can feel my palms beginning to get sweaty.
Just like me to get nervous when I get to her door.
She waited a few seconds before opening the door.
"What are you doing here?" She asked with raised eyebrows.
"Wow. You must really hate me if I can't even get a hi." I chuckled a little bit walking past her.
She sighed before closing the door behind her.
I walked to her living room where I sat down on the couch putting my arms on the arm rest.
"Hi Wardell. How have you been? Is everything going fine?" She asked in a sarcastic voice.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed.
"Whatever. I just wanted to know why you bailed out on basketball?" I asked her.
She looked at me before coming over to me.
"That's my business now you can leave." She stated pulling me off of the couch.
"No, I'm not leaving until you tell me the truth." I snapped backing her up so she's the one sitting on the couch now.
She groaned folding her arms over her chest.
"I'm not feeling it anymore." She told me simply.
"What do you mean you're not feeling it anymore?" I questioned her bending down so my hands are on her thighs.
She looked down at my hands before looking back up at me.
"Basketball use to be so much fun when I was younger now it's just too much to handle. It's just all too much and I was very overwhelmed." She told me honestly.
I nodded my head in understanding because I do understand. There was a time where I wanted to quit because of what everyone had to say about my height. They use to say that I'm too short and I would never make it to the NBA now look at me.
"I know how it feels to want to give up but you can't. Leslie I believe in you. I don't want you to give up on something you really care about. Please rethink your decision about quitting basketball." I said grabbing onto her hands and squeezing them a bit.
She smiled sweetly at me.
"Thank you Wardell and I will rethink it." She said making my heart melt by her smile.
"Last week you really broke my heart Leslie. I--I was so upset about what you said and I really started hating you for a week. You know I can't really hate you so that didn't last long at all." I told her.
She nodded her head and a tear fell out of her eye. I quickly wiped the tear away and kissed her cheek.
"I'm so sorry Wardell. I knew what I said hurt you. I didn't mean what I said I was just pushing you away like--"
I cut her off with a kiss on the lips making her grip my shirt.
"Don't worry about what happened just know that you're mine forever." I mumbled against her lips.
She nodded her head as a few more of her tears collided with my face.
Leslie George will be mine forever. ❤️
