"You know, if I realized we'd have to be up this early, I definitely would not have come on this trip!" Noelle complained as we lugged our suitcases into baggage claim in the strangely busy airport. Who knew so many people would be travelling by air at 4:45 in the morning.
"Oh, you are such a liar." Mason teased, as he was waved on by the bored and lazy eyed women behind the counter and Noelle stepped up to take his place.
"Yeah, you're right. I wouldn't miss this for the world." Noelle stated sticking her tongue out and not paying attention the the women, who was asking repeatedly for her I.D. "Oh, I'm so sorry!" Noelle exclaimed, fumbling in her wallet for another two minutes, earning an unearthly death glare from the lady behind the counter.
"Move along, Miss." The lady groaned out, rolling her eyes as Noelle pranced away to wait on me with Mason. My baggage check-in lasted for a few short minutes, and then our little trio pranced towards the ascending stairs to find our gate.
"Flight 815 to Baltimore, boarding now." We heard the metallic voice through the intercom and gazed at each with horror. And then we were running.
It would seem as if, in an airport, people would move out of a person's way if that person were, say, sprinting for their life. It would seem the other people would think to themselves 'Hey, the must be late for their flight.' But no, that is not how it happens. In fact, it seems there are more people moving in your way when you're sprinting through the airport than any of time in your life. And then it's just a hopeless effect on pissing people off; everyone gets mad at you for some reason or another.
"And we've made it, safe and sound." Mason gasped out as we reached the gate for flight 815. I breathed a sigh of relief and followed the blonde and ginger pair past the gate attendant and through the narrow walkway, until the door of the plane appeared and we were forced to separate to our varying seats.
I placed myself in my seat, by the window to my delight, and prepared myself for the worst part of flying: the takeoff. There wasn't anything worse than the taking off of an airplane. That sinking, flipping feeling of your organs as the plane launches itself from the ground and into the air, and for that one split second, everything stops and you feel as if nothing will go right. That you will crash down mercilessly. And then, you're flying.
I slipped my headphones into my ears, pressing the play button to a Sleeping with Sirens song and waiting for the fasten seat belts light to appear, the signal the plane would start moving soon. And there it was, the moment that seemed to start an even bigger adventure, or misadventure: the taking off of a plane.
The flight to Baltimore was short and sweet, only taking a matter of three hours from Atlanta, compared to the fourteen hour drive we'd faced that Spring Break before. It was a nice flight, the seats flanking mine being empty the whole time. No annoying passengers. No crying babies. Just me, the window, and my music. It was a great ride, other than that one second for takeoff.
We scurried off the plane, Mason rubbing his eyes as if he'd slept the whole flight and Noelle bookmarking her newest read before her place could be lost and then tucking the book safely into her carry on.
"So, Mason, after you passed out, this super hot blonde chick sat down beside you. It was a sad sight, really." Noelle said somberly as we headed towards baggage claim. She nudged my shoulders, sending me the 'play along' signal.
"You're lying." Mason retorted, glancing down at his little sister. The height difference between the two was absolutely amazing. Mason, the star basketball player, was at least 6 feet 3 inches, while Noelle was three inches shorter than me at 5'4. It was actually quite hard to see how the two were related. Other than the fact that their attitudes were just alike.
