Depression isn't feeling sad and making sure everyone knows it. Depression isn't saying out loud "I hate me, too" anytime someone says it jokingly or saying that you wish you were dead. Depression isn't just having a low self-esteem, although that can be a result of it. Depression is a mental disorder, that you must be diagnosed for by a professional. Depression is not a word you can use if you're sad or having a bad day or a rough time. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, that can suck the joy out of most things or everything, that can let you be happy one second then rips it away, that makes you lose ambition, and even produces suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Depression is not feeling bad for yourself, because we are all teenagers and this is the time most of our confidence plummets and our self-esteem is at an all time low, this is where we are forced into a hostile environment, filled with teenagers going through the same thing. Depression is not a term to be used so lightly, it is someone's struggle and it's made out to be, not nothing, but really just not that important, by people who have no idea what they are talking about. I'm not medically diagnosed as depressed and I don't claim to be, sure I'm going through some stuff, but I'm working on it, I'm trying to fix it. Stop using the word depressed to describe yourself or others unless you or they have been medically diagnosed. When did being "fucked up" become a fad.
