Chapter 4

After school, my friends and I all rode in Julie's convertible to my house.

"Oh! Turn it up, I love this song!" yells Kaitlyn from the back seat. I turn up Coldplay's "Paradise" until it was at a suitable volume.

Julie and I then start to belt out the lyrics so the entire world could hear us. I screamed out each lyric with my terrible singing voice. Julie did the same, but her voice still sounded angelic, even when she was trying to make it sound bad.

"Seriously guys? You're ruining the song for me," Kaitlyn complains. Julie, Hannah, and I just crack up.

Finally, we arrive at my cute apartment building. For some odd reason, it's painted bright green with a white trim. I'm glad that it stands out, or else Tess would've never even looked at the place.

The inside of our apartment is as bright as the outside; each room is painted with a different vibrant color. Tess always said that unless your home is interesting, why waste your money on it?

"Hey girls," Tess says not looking up from her typewriter. My friends and I walk into my purple living room as Tess punches each key. She refuses to get a computer because she believes that the old fashion way is the best way.

"Hey," we all murmur in response. The girls look around approvingly at what I setup last night. I went to the supply shop and purchased a huge canvas. Then, I laid a few tarps down behind the canvas and around the floor and furniture. Lastly, I took water balloons and filled them with every color of paint I had, and tacked them on the canvas. It took a lot of work, but when we were done, it would look awesome and I would get to keep it.

The girls and I got changed into old t-shirts and pants, while Hannah took out the box of darts she bought. Tess was already in her clothes and joined us as we stared at the large balloon-covered canvas before us.

"Well are you guys going to start, or shall I?" Tess asks, breaking the silence. We all start laughing.

"Wait! We have to have some music playing," Julie says. We all agree and we turn up the speakers attached to my iPod and turn in up loud. Then we all take our first dart.

"Ready...aim...FIRE!" I shout as we launch our arrows in the air. Hannah's and Kaitlyn's darts pop a balloon but the rest of us didn't have such luck.

We all continued to shoot darts, laugh, and comment on each other's dart-throwing abilities until we popped the last balloon. I take a step back to examine our work; the bright paints all run down the canvas going different directions. Some of the paints' paths have intertwined, creating new colors. Over all the painting turned out wonderfully.

"Cool," comments Hannah. We nod our heads in agreement. After we finish admiring our masterpiece, we started to clean up our huge mess.

Forty minutes later, my living room was cleaned up, and we were changed into our pajamas. Tonight was special, and we were actually allowed to have a sleepover on a school night. We had brought all of our homework so we could work on it together.

I took out my trigonometry textbook and got to work. Hannah was in pre-calculus and was able to help me when I got stuck. At around 10:00, we gave up on homework and started gossiping.

"She so dyes her hair. There is no way that Bridgette is a natural blonde," Kaitlyn says.

"I noticed that too, what about Kirsten? She's so fake. I'm glad that I'm a natural blonde,” Julie adds, twirling her short blonde hair. I'm not really paying attention to the conversation; instead I'm focused on my phone.
