Chapter 6
My obnoxiously loud alarm clock begins ringing promptly at 6:30, pulling me away from my dreams. I stick my hand out to snooze it and roll up from bed. I suddenly remember what was happening on this very special Friday; Will was going to drive me to school! That means that I'm going to have to look extra cute today.
Even though it's November, it's still pretty warm and sunny. Each day, it gets colder; reminding us that summer is way over and school is in session. I pull out my favorite white high-low dress and a jean jacket. After I'm dressed I brush my teeth and wash my face. I don't put any makeup on since I don't like it and I don't really need it.
I look up into the mirror. My long dark hair is naturally straight, so I just brush it down. I have brown eyes and tan skin. Most people still call me "cute", which can get really annoying when you're sixteen and trying to look "pretty".
When I look down at my watch, I realize I have about ten minutes to eat breakfast and pack my bags before Will is supposed to pick me up. I go to the kitchen window with an apple in my hand, when I see Will's silver BMW parked on the curb.
"Crap," I think to myself, "am I late?"
I look down at my watch but I see that I still have eight minutes until I told him to pick me up. He must've come early and waited, how cute. I smile at the thought.
Not wanting to make him wait any longer, I grab my backpack and head out to his car. When I get down to his car, I knock on his window, bringing his attention to me. He waves when he sees me, and rolls down the window, "Hey beautiful," he says.
I roll my eyes, but I'm secretly happy that he my efforts paid off. I guess my blushing shows how much I like that he called me beautiful; because when I look back over I see he's smirking. I narrow my eyes, "Quit flirting and open the door."
His smirk grows but he opens the passenger door. I slide onto the seat and place my backpack beside my feet. He starts driving and I turn up the radio and squeal when I hear a teenybopper Austin Mahone song.
He turns his head for a second to send me a look that most people would give only to an alien. When I see him looking at me I grin and start singing along to the chorus.
"Hey baby you, you got what I need. But you say you're just a friend. Yeah you say you're just a friend."
Will starts laughing, "You're insane."
"Oh, I know. I'm special."
"Yeah, 'special'," Will jokes.
"What? I am..." the strong scent of smoke infiltrates my nose. I start coughing, and then cover my nose with my jacket. "My God! What the hell is that smell?"
Will pulls off to the side of the street. Once he parks, we both jump out of the car. The front hood of his car has large clouds of black smoke coming from it.
A few choice curse words fly out of Will's mouth, " My parents are going to kill me!"
I stare at the smoking car. I've never been in this situation before. Heck, I don't even own a car! The most I can do right now is comfort Will...or at least try. "We can think about that later. First we have to stop your car from, um, exploding."
Will immediately takes his phone out and calls someone; I have no idea who, but about ten minutes later, two guys in trucks comes to check the car out.
After fifteen minutes of looking under the hood, the two men call us over.
"Do ya see that right over there?" The balding man to my left asks, pointing at something under the small bit of smoke still twirling around the car. Will strains his eyes to try to see what he was pointing to but I just nod, not knowing what else to say.
