Chapter 10

I kinda lied.

I did have 1 friend through it all, as well as her slightly younger brother and slightly older sister. Madison was the only person that stuck by me. She was a dipshit, but I loved her.

Madison was gorgeous. With long, straight, blonde hair and green blue eyes. Her sister Katlynn was gorgeous too. But she had totally different features. Curly, dark hair, brown eyes and thick eyelashes. Then there was Alec. He too is a dipshit with brown usually kinda shaggy hair, big eyes and a round nose. They were all I had.

After Nathan had kissed me, Aspen woke up so I didn't have much time to think about him, and honestly I didn't want to, but with nothing new I don't have anything else to think about.

I've had 3 major crushes in my life. The first was from kindergarten to 4th grade and that was Mason. He smokes weed and cigarettes now. Then there was Colton 5th and 6th. He was the one I "stole" from Cally. Then Nathan.

I was always interested in guys and I don't know why cause all the ones I've liked were jerks. And thing is, I knew it before I liked them. So why did I like them. Maybe Scarlett was right. Maybe I shouldn't take him back.

"Hey Scarlett? Can you come with me really quick?" I ask.

She looks over at me when Aspen paused. "Yeah, be right back." She tells her and gets up to walk out with me. "What's going on?" She questions.

"You'll see." I reply walking toward the cafeteria. I see him immediately and walk towards him. "No." I say staring Nathan in the eye.

"What?" He asks looking confused. His glance darts to Scarlett and I see his jaw tighten.

"I can't take you back. I'm sorry Nathan but I've only ever liked assholes. No offense, your better than the other two. But I just need a break. So try to move on, because I'm not coming back." I try not to let the tear slip out.

Scarlett looks surprised. Nathan even more so. "But what about Sunday? I thoug-" but I cut him off with a shake of my head.

"I'm sorry Nathan." I finish and turn around, walking away with Scarlett on my heels.

"Why did you need me? What was that about?" She asks.

"Because I needed someone to tell this to and aspens hurt right now." I whisper.

"Tell what to me?" Scarlett looks scared. Which makes me scared. Something horses often do.

"My life. My loneliness. My story." I say. Already starting to cry

"Sage, you can tell me anything." She says.

So here's goes nothing and everything.

I was in a room with Alec. We were in a cabin in the middle of the woods with our families but we were the only ones in the room.

I looked out of a piece of one way glass to see our families watching a movie. I turned to say something to Alec.

I sit straight up from my seat in the hospital room. What. The. Hell.

Nope. It was just a dream. I cast the dream from my mind and instantly forgot it. I look over and notice Aspen watching me curiously. "Who's Alec," She says "did I forget someone else?" She asks. Her face was thinner than it had been at the beginning of summer. The hospital was taking a toll on her.

"Alec? Um he's one of my friends from back home." I say casually.

Her eyes kinda narrow but all she does is shrug and ask for some food.

I leave the room and hurry to the cafeteria where I bump into Asher.

"Oh hey, Sage." He says. His eyes scan behind me. Looking for Scarlett I assume.

"She's not with me, sorry Asher. And look I know your hoping she'll change her mind, but Scarlett's moving on, and you should do the same." I say.

Asher looks me dead in the eye. "I won't let go of the only girl I've ever truly liked." He says deadpan, then he walks away. Well damn.

We are going back to camp soon but my family was taking to opportunity to come up today to say hi and stuff. She had texted me earlier today about it.

At that moment I see my brother's short brown hair next to my tall dad.

My mom is behind him, completely hidden due to her shortness.

I haven't seen them all summer. I wonder if they will like Aspen and Scarlett. I hope so.
