Aspen
~~~~~~~
"I can ask you practically anything right?" I ask the girl."Yes. As I told you-"
"Yeah, yeah. Can't ask about you or this place." I say mocking her words as I throw my hands in the air in disappointment. "I have one other question, unless I think of more. Where am I on Earth?"
She forms her lips in a straight line and her eyes grow dark. She seems to know exactly were I am, but is hesitant to tell me. The last place I remember was the shore with Andrew, his lips on mine.
"You are in a hospital," she says gloomy.
Of course. Andrew is such a worry wart he probably took me to the best hospital he could think of. "Ok. Who's there with me?" I ask praying that Sage and Scarlet have no idea. They'll find out eventually, but I wanna wake up before they strangle Andrew for my mistake of not telling them about our relationship.
"Many people. Andrew and his friends Asher and Nathan,"
Gross, why Nathan?, I think to myself.
"Your counselor, and,"
Please don't say Sage and Scarlet
"Sage and Scarlet."
I groan when she says their names. Great they know for sure now. They're gonna strangle Andrew or kill me before I wake up.
If I wake up.
We sit in silence for while. It's one of those awkward silences that is so thick you can't help, but shift in your seat.
"I'm guessing you're out of questions?" She questions breaking the silence.
I roll my eyes and sit right in my seat. "Yes because all my questions are about this place and you, and I can't ask them."
She laughs under her breath and smiles. "Then ask away," she says in a still small voice.
"How do you know all the answers to my questions?" I shoot.
"In answering that question I'm going to have to tell you who I am but you can't freak out."
She stands up and spreads her arms. I knew she was a nut job. She stands there for a few moments, then her back starts shimmering.
"What the...?" I whisper. I stand and walk towards her. As soon as I get close to her the shimmering stops revealing feather wings.
"You're an angel?" I whisper.
"I'm a guardian angel. Your guardian angel. That's why I know so much about you." She tells me.
I couldn't believe it. I'm standing before a real angel. They're nothing like the statues in the courtyard at the park. They're more beautiful and elegant.
I must have a stupid look on my face, because she starts laughing.
"Sorry, I'm just so... astonished." I say observing her wings.
"I understand. It's not like you see a real angel every day." She says to me.
"What's your name?" I ask her.
"Isadora."
That's pretty. It's a good name for a girl. I'll name my daughter that,but what if I don't wake up?, I think.
I stop and a lump in my throat forms. I might never get married, have kids, or say I love you to Andrew. I can't die I have to wake up, I have to. For Andrew. For me.
"Isadora I have to wake up. I can't die. I wanna get married, have kids, I haven't traveled to all the places I want to yet. You have to help me wake up!" I say desperately as I grab her shoulders.
"I... I don't know how," she stutters.
"Isadora, please." I plead as tears form in my eyes. "I want to live."
She stands there in silence staring into my eyes, tears filling hers. I let go of her shoulders and step back. I can see it in her eyes. She knows how to get me to wake up.
"Isadora... How do I wake up?" I say through my teeth.
She hesitates to tell me, but she finally breaks. "I think I might know one way, but it's not guaranteed to work." She comes over to me and grabs my hands.
"You know the movie Wizard of Oz? Well you wake up sort of like Dorthy gets home, except I have to touch my wings together three times and you need to draw this symbol on the floor."
She shows me a symbol on her right palm and puts a black marker in my hand. I kneel on the ground and start drawing. The symbol has what looks like a lowercase M on top and a cross on the bottom attached to an end of the M.
When I finish drawing the symbol, I jump up and grab her hands again.
"Ready?" She asks me.
I take a deep breath and respond, "Ready."
I close my eyes and hear her wings start to flap.
1
I'll get to see my friends again.
2
I can enjoy the rest of my summer.
3
I can see Andrew again.
Cold air hits me and it forces me to gasp. The smell of sanitary wipes overwhelms the room and I instantly know where I am.The hospital. The worst place to be. I've hated hospitals since I was really little and still do to this day. Doctors just freak me out.
Before I open my eyes I hear a boy's voice yelling my name.
"Aspen! Are you awake? Geeze Aspen come on open your eyes!" He says.
I open one of my eyes and see a boy with brown hair and blue eyes looking down over me. He's crying. Why is he crying?
He leans closer to me and pushes his lips to mine. WHAT!? I start struggling to get this kid off of me and I eventually push him off. When I look at him, he has a confused look on his face.
His eyes go dark and they fill with tears. "Aspen?" He whispers.
"Who are you?"
