Luke inhaled the smoke and exhaled looking like a dragon taking a breath. He closed his eyes and tried to remember happier times when he didn't feel the need to bring chemicals into his body for relaxation. The memories however were tinted black and poisoned by his own darkened thoughts. The only escape was the smoke.

He stood on the bridge over looking the Sydney harbor listing to the sound of the crashing waves. Skipping school never felt more peaceful in his life. The cigarette had burnt down to the end and he tossed it on the ground making it fade to ash. He looked up through his sunglasses at the horizon of the ocean and watched the boats leave the dock and sail away, wishing he could go with them.

After having enough of the view he put his hands in his black jean pockets and walked along the side walk.

"Luke! Luke Hemmings!" A girl yelled.

He heard her voice and knew who it was but decided not to turn around.

"Luke Robert!" She yelled at him with more annoyance than the first time.

Again, he kept walking and threw his black hood up over his head. The sound of clicking heels against the pavement grew closer and eventually a hand grabbed his shoulder.

"Hey!" The girl said making him turn around "where have you been?"

"Just leave me alone" he replied quietly, shaking his shoulder from her grasp.

"No! What the hell is going on with you? You've been missing since yesterday-"

"I was already missing before the night I left!" He turned around "It's just been me and my shadow and all of my regrets!"

She didn't know how to react to his sudden outburst of feelings.

"Who am I?" He asked "who the hell am I?" He repeated, this time with a broken voice "I don't know myself Charlotte" his voice became softer "invisible"

Charlotte stared, he said her name after a year of being ignored.

"Please just let me be alone" he wiped his watery eyes with the sleeves of his hoodie and turned around.

"Luke it's Michael" she finally said.

He stopped.

"He needs you"

Slowly he turned his head to the side without moving his body "what?" He asked.

"Michael needs you" she repeated taking a step forward "his nurse called during lunch, said that he needed to talk to you..that he only has one phone call left and he wants to use it on you"

Luke stayed where he was, not believing what he was hearing.

"Just, please answer when the hospital calls" Charlotte said, finishing her statement "I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked knowing she wouldn't.

"Maybe" he replied. The clicking sound of heels started again, this time fading away. Luke turned around to see her leaving him, like he had asked, but feeling sad that she was gone.

Almost immediately after Charlotte had walked away his phone rang. Luke's heart about stopped, he took it from his pocket and looked at the lock screen. He slid his fingers across the glass and brought the phone to his ear "hello?" He asked, waiting so desperately to hear his friends voice on the other end.

"Luke?" He asked.

Luke closed his eyes and let the tears stream down his face "Michael!" He yelled accidentally in shock to hear his friends voice.
