"Hi! Luke Hemmings, right? I'm Victoria Quinn. I'm Cassidy's friend. We're both in Music club. She told me you like Nirvana and I'm a fan of them so I thought we could be friends." The girl beamed as she held out a hand at Luke who was taking things out of his locker.
Luke shook it gently before returning his hand to the strap of his school bag, the other hugging some books to his chest.
"There seems to be a lot of people who are fond of Nirvana in this school." Luke quietly stated, his Australian accent clearly evident which Victoria seemed to find attractive.
Victoria shook her head with a small smile. "Not exactly. We're the minority. The rest are all about the hits on radio stations, ya' know. Like Jason Derulo, John Legend and all that."
Victoria then held out a piece of paper, Luke noticed it was some sort of sign-up form.
"You should consider joining the Music club. We do performances sometimes so it's a bonus if you have musical talent. Otherwise, you can meet people with the same music interest as you. I'd be happy if you'd join." She flashed a small grin.
Luke took the piece of paper carefully and nodded, smiling widely.
"Sounds like fun. I'll be sure to give it some thought." Luke said, making eye contact with the girl.
Victoria fiddled with the hem of her sleeves and hummed before inquiring silently, "How do you like it here?"
"It's alright. It's really not that different from Sydney." He answered, looking down at his shoes as the both of them started walking to homeroom. It was true though; what he said. The only difference was that the people here didn't know him as well as the people back in Sydney, which he was thankful for.
"Do you still keep in contact with your friends?" Victoria quizzed, biting the insides of her cheeks anxiously. She really wanted to make a good impression to Luke. But you can't blame the girl for being curious about a handsome boy that's not from town.
Luke chuckled lightly, the sound indicating sheer amusement and slight embarrassment. "I haven't gone on social media for a long time."
Victoria then nodded, asking him another question. "Why not?"
Luke fell silent for a moment. The tension in the air was increasing by the second, causing Victoria to fidget uncomfortably. Her lips parted slightly after about five full seconds to apologize for being rather nosy when Luke said, "Something happened.'
Victoria hummed, keeping mum as she was afraid she'd upset him. Luke glanced at her and smiled. "It's why I moved here, you know? Call me a coward but I tend to run away from my problems."
"It's okay. When I was taking ballet in 1st grade, my teacher said that if I couldn't do a split by the next class, she would have to extend my classes and that would mean that I'll miss my favourite television show. So when I got home, I kept on trying and trying to do a split but I was scared to take the risk and go down farther than I already could. So as the days go by, I was always a foot above the ground. Then came the day before my ballet lesson. I really didn't want to miss my favourite television show so I told my mom that the teacher was being forceful and kept on getting upset at everything so she let me quit. Up to this very day, I am still unable to do the splits." She grinned sheepishly, entering the class with Luke following behind her.
"But that's different," Luke pointed out. "That was ten years ago and my problem is a much bigger one. I shouldn't have run from it but I did."
Victoria took her seat the back corner of the class by the window and tossed her bag under her desk. "Well, whatever your problem may be, I hope it'll be okay soon. If you need someone to talk to, I'll be right here."
Luke laughing and took his seat in front of Cassidy, who was busy reading a book, after he jokingly said, "Of course. I'll immediately run to you, with a shirt on or not."
As soon as he sat in his chair, he heard Cassidy say, "Tori's a sweet girl, isn't she?"
Luke turned around in his chair, glancing at the empty seat next to Cassidy. "Yeah, she seems really nice." He trailed off, his eyes lingering on the vacant chair. "Is Ashton absent?"
Cassidy placed her bookmark on the page she stopped at and close her book, shrugging. "I think he overslept. Typical Ashton Irwin." Cassidy rolled her eyes as Calum walked in the class and sat in his place, joining in the conversation.
"Your boyfriend's late again, Cass?" He teased.
Both Cassidy's and Luke's head snapped towards Calum. Luke's eyes widened slightly as he heard Cassidy hiss at Calum's remark.
'Did I hear it correctly?' Luke thought, staring at Calum like he had grown another head as the latter was panic-stricken at his slip of words.
