"Victoria," Luke called as he nudged the female's side. The girl was talking to a tanned girl with her hair in a messy bun, wearing a floral kimono cardigan over a black bodycon dress that stopped mid-thigh. It's funny how she's dressed up according to the season, yet she looks like she'd been lying on the beach like the most perfect thing you do on summer, Luke thought.
Victoria gave Luke a small apologetic smile and continued to converse with this girl about an event supposedly happening next month.
Luke frowned slightly, poking her side once more.
"Victoria," he hissed, feeling goosebumps as he feared of getting caught.
"What's wrong?" Victoria finally faced him, raising both her eyebrows.
Luke shrugged and simply stated, "I saw them."
"And what did you do?"
"I'll tell you everything later. We have to get out of here."
"What? Why-" Before Victoria could finish, Luke took her arm and dragged her out of the party, being careful not to hurt her. He continued to tug on her arm as he unlocked the car and opened the door for her.
"Thank you." Victoria smiled, stepping in and Luke nodded in acknowledgement before shutting the door and jogging to the other side.
He got in and Victoria immediately attacked him with questions, "What exactly happened?"
"I was sitting at the backyard because it was so stuffy inside and I saw them under the tree. I don't know if they're drunk but I really hope so because if they had seen me, they'd forget it by tomorrow."
"Wait, who did you see?"
"Cassidy and Ashton. Wasn't that what I was supposed to see?"
"Yeah. What did you do then?"
"I left and looked for you to leave." He glanced at the girl, starting the engine.
"Why don't you want them to see you?"
"I don't want them to know that I know."
Victoria laughed softly, "You don't seem surprised by this though."
"I've known about them for some time. I saw her sneaking out the window once and everyone seems to mention Ashton to Cassidy a lot. It wasn't that hard to put the pieces together."
"What are you going to do now?"
"Keep mum, I guess." Luke shrugged, "I don't think there's any harm, as long as her grades aren't dropping."
Victoria nodded and quietly confessed, "I guess. But what if she doesn't stop at parties? What if her lifestyle changes completely? I'm afraid, Luke."
"What are you afraid of, Quinn?" Luke gazed at her, watching her expression.
Victoria's lips quivered as she said, "I'm scared I'll lose her. I'm scared I'll lose the Cassidy I've known since forever. She could change to an entirely different person by being with Ashton, Luke."
"Let's not worry too much, alright? How much trouble could Cassidy possibly get into?" Luke chuckled softly and started to drive back to the deli.
"I guess you're right. She's already seventeen, she should know how to care for herself."
Luke nodded, humming softly.
"Exactly. She'll be fine." He laughed, then said. "She's Cassidy Brooks."
To which Victoria laughed, remembering the time she said the exact same thing to him.
Luke glanced at the clock on the dashboard that stated the time was four minutes to four. "Are you sure you'll be alright driving at this hour?"
"I'll be fine, I wasn't the one who've had a couple cups of those nasty things they gave out." As she said this, she gave Luke a teasing smile.
"How did you know?" Luke raised an eyebrow, keeping his eyes on the road.
"You obviously weren't looking around. I was nearby and I saw you."
"Really? I only saw wasted people."
"Yeah. It's probably the reason why no one else knows about Cassidy and Ashton, even though they've been together in public places often. They're sneaky like that."
"That's true. But how did you know that the alcohol they gave out was nasty?" Luke nudged Victoria's side gently, still keeping his eyes on the road.
"Just a wild guess." She shrugged, fiddling with her fingers.
"It's not really that bad. You should try it one day."
"No thanks, I heard it burns your throat."
"You'll get used to it."
"You know you're such a bad example."
Luke laughed and nodded slightly, "I get that sometimes but I just want people to have fun."
"You don't seem like one to have fun though." Victoria simply stated, making Luke frown slightly.
"I've been through a lot, that's all."
"I noticed, you always seem to have a lot on your mind. Why? What happened?" Victoria shifted slightly in her seat to get a better view of Luke.
"A lot had happened back in Sydney but I'd rather not talk about it."
"Hey, Hemmings?"
"Yeah?"
"You trust me, right?"
"Of course." Luke glanced at her from the corner of his eye curiously.
"Then if you're having a rough time, you know you can let me know, right? I'm only a call away." The female softly said, earning a small smile from yours truly.
He nodded, a rasp chuckle escaping his lips. "Of course. Didn't I tell you I'd come to you right away? Even if I was about to sleep and had no shirt on."
"I advise you put a shirt on before coming because my younger sister might hit on you." Victoria laughed, turning the volume higher when she realized that it was her favorite song.
"Just your younger sister?" Luke raised an eyebrow, teasingly. "What about you?"
As soon as Victoria heard this, her cheeks flushed red and she swore to god that if it wasn't dark, she would have jumped out of the car at that moment to hide the fact that she was blushing. But then again, who wouldn't when there's a good-looking lad driving next to you without being forced to?
She immediately faked a cough and said, "Oh my god, I need water."
Luke laughed quietly as he parked at the designated parking area outside the deli. "Should we go in and eat something then? I'm starving."
Victoria nodded quickly in agreement as she laughed as well, "Sure, as long as you're paying."
