Christopher Dylan Brown

School was the same. The same people. The same corridors. The same teachers. The same classes. It was an endless nightmare.

There was this history pop quiz today which I obviously hadn't studied for. How did I know? That's among the privileges you get when you're in the student council here in Allen Poe Prep School.

Why wasn't I studying? Because my girlfriend, Verona came over. Need I say more?

She unpacked her purse to reveal a freshly rolled joint. And the new Fall Out Boy CD. Man, I loved her.

I popped my window open and we sat by my bed and lit the joint. She went to my computer and put in the CD. She pressed play. I smiled.

She sat next to me and hummed the tunes.

"Hey." She looked into my eyes.

She smiled and I felt something punch me inside. "Yeah?"

"We could be immortals, babe."

I smiled and smoked.

Adam Andrew Brown

"Here." I passed the paper to Sylver.

She was dressed quite professionally today. Even though her job requires her to dress this way, and I've seen her like this practically every single day of my life, it still feels strange.

"Thanks." She takes the paper and takes a good look at it.

"This is really happening," she said after a short pause. Her eyes looked slightly bemused. She looked at me funny. "Sure is."

She signed the papers and handed them to her lawyer, who was sitting at her side. "We okay here?" her lawyer asks. Sylver nodded her head. She looked at me one last time and then proceeded to pick her bag up. She collected herself and started towards the door.

I followed her downstairs. (Not in a creepy way. We were headed in the same direction.)

She walked to her car and fished her bag for the key. I walked towards her to say a final goodbye.

"Hey, Syl." I stood before her and smiled at her.

"What is it, Adam?" She looked a little lost. She continued to look for her keys. "Hey, look at me." She looked up. "What do you want?"

I took her hand and held it for a while. She let me, to my surprise. She tried to say something to me multiple times but I couldn't hear her.

We were in the busy streets of Manhattan. The cars were obviously loud and the chatter of the pedestrians made the whole atmosphere buzzy and chaotic. The sun was out and it was a warm day. But I couldn't feel it. I was cold.

Only her hand was keeping me warm. Only her face was giving me light. And now she'd be gone.

"Are you okay, Adam?"

She let her hand go and cupped my face. She pushed my hair away from my face and told me I'd be alright.

"Will you..uh.."

"Hmm?"

"Wait."

I searched for this note I had written her this morning. I had almost forgotten about it.

I handed it to her.

She looked at me and then slowly went to unfold the crumbled piece of paper.

She smiled and sniffed and smiled again.

And when she looked at me, her eyes were sparkling. She grew more beautiful with age.

"Yeah," she finally said and nodded.

"See you there, then," I said and went ahead to give her a hug.

"You will, Adam Brown."

She unlocked her car and then caught my gaze. She saw me smiling at the ground.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"No, tell me."

"You called me Adam Brown."

A/N → PART 2! Bet you didn't expect that. I'll be introducing a few new characters in this part and yes, you guessed it: there probably will be a PART 3 soon. Maybe a few twenty chapters down the line. :)
