Distance Between Us

Chapter 4

Kai and I are now alone.., this will be awkward since we don't really talk to each other that much, speaking of Kai, where is he? I look around and saw him already walking without me, will he allow me to walk with him.., well even if we do we'll just not act friendly more like strangers, I think its best to walk separately so there isn't any tension between us. I started to do just that but it stills feels unsettling to just stare at his back, I'll just stare somewhere else I thought to myself, I started to gaze towards the trees under the glittering sunlight, watching it flow nice and peacefully makes me feel at ease..
*Bump* "Oh..., huh.." I looked up to see who it was and saw Kai. "Oh! I'm really sorry," I said panicking.
"Watch where your going," he said coldly. "Y-yes..I'm sorry!" I said frequently.
He sighs then said, "Yeah yeah, it wasn't a big deal anyways."
I looked up a little relieved. We started walking silently, I kept stealing glances at him, why do I keep doing that? "Hey..why do you keep staring at me like that?" "Huh.., oh..sorry..," I said shyly.
"I didn't asked for an apology, I asked a question," he said annoyed. "I..don't know.."
"What do you mean you don't know."
"Well you seem somewhat distant and I kind of wonder why..you seem so far.."
"Hm..., what are you talking about I'm still here." "Y-yeah I know, what am I saying," I said smilingly.
"Your a strange one, although your not as bad as other girls," he said in a somewhat kind way.
"Huh.., strange..., you think of me as a strange person.." I asked a bit disappointed. "Well not in a bad way..." I looked up and saw his face a little red..., I never see him liked that it made me happy. "So its a good way then.." "Yeah.., I guess you can say that..but don't let it get to your head just because I said that to you.."
"Okay..., thanks!" I said happily. "Huh..what for?" "Hm..not sure just felt like saying it I guess."
"You sure are a strange one." "But in a good way, right?" "Yeah...sure, in a good way.."
I smiled as I walked for some reason talking to him makes me feel warm inside, we finally had an actual conversation together, I feel like I'm a little closer to him, the distance between us are closing bit by bit..., what am I saying I shouldn't think these things. Shaking my head I decided to think of him in friendly terms no more than that...
"Hey do you have any other friends that you hang out with besides those two?" "Huh...not in particular..why?"
"Oh, no reason just that you seem like you would have many friends with you being popular and all.
"He looked down for a moment then said, "I don't really like being the center of attention." "Huh..how come?"
"They don't really care about friendship, more like its the status that counts to them," he said a bit irritated.
"Oh.., but not everyone is like that." "Hm, your probably right.."
It must be lonely being like that, has he been living like that his whole life with not many friends to be with.., now that I learn a few new things about him I felt like learning more, about his past... Then I thought that I should be friends with him, he will have someone to rely on then.
"Hey, how about being friends with me." "Huh.., why are you saying that," he asked a bit surprised.
"Well I feel like we're going to see each other a lot so how about becoming friends instead of acting like strangers." "What is your goal for being my friend...," he asked suspiciously. "Huh? No goal, I just want to be friends thats all." He didn't seem convinced so I decided on an idea.
Giving my pinkie I said, "How about we pinkie swear, lets be friends and if I do anything that betrays you I'll...," I couldn't think of anything until an idea popped in my mind, "...I won't bother you anymore and will keep my distance from you," I said boldly.
"Really...though a pinkie swear seems childish don't you think," he said teasingly.
"Hey! Its a promise we're making...fine how about we shake on it," I said changing my hand style.
He puts my hand in a pinkie swear and locks it with his.
"There and you better keep that promise or else you know your punishment," he said smirkingly.
"Y-yeah..," I said looking up at him as I see a glint of kindness.
We separated as we walked towards a split street.
"See you tomorrow," I said smiling and waving. "Yeah...see you tomorrow," he said coolly.
Starting to walk my way I turned and he was already gone...

I'm finally home, as I step inside the house I saw my mom in the kitchen cooking something,"I'm home," I said.
She look back and smiled,"Welcome back, how was it. Did you make any friends? Did you have fun?"
"It was good..., I did make friends," I said a bit happy, as I set my bag down near the dining chair and sat.
"That's good to hear, what are their names," she asked.
"Tara and Camille, they're really nice," I answered thoughtfully.
"That's great, even in your first day, hope everything went well in school, did it?"
I thought back towards lunch..., it wasn't like anything bad happen just some girls being unfriendly and then there's Kai... "Elina...Elina...," called mom.
"Huh.., oh..sorry just daydreaming I guess."
"Did something happen in school I have to worry about," she asked worriedly.
"N-no, everything's fine, homework! That's right I need to do my homework."
"Oh...okay, well would you like me to bring a snack for you, how about sandwiches."
"That would be great thanks," I said then got my bag and head to my room.
Stepping inside I dropped my bag and lied on my bed. Thinking back, it wasn't so bad as I expected, besides the incident in lunch, everything was fine and I saw another side of Kai, guess he's not always mean if he wants to be, it made me a little happy that we walked together, wonder if we'll be walking together everyday.., stop it, I shouldn't think these things. Getting up I reached for my bag, guess I'll start doing my homework to keep me occupied. Kai.., even thinking about him makes me smile....
