Distance Between Us

Chapter 10

The ball falls towards them, they both started reaching towards the ball but Joey who is a few inches taller with incredible jumps leaps before Camille does and claims the ball bouncing it and running towards the hoop, Tara and I started after him even so our speed isn't as fast as his however Camille races after him trying to steal the ball from him, but he passes it towards Kai who makes a smooth shot from a distance. Crowds cheer were deafening especially the girls cheering for the guys we were outmatched.
"Come on girls, we can still do this, they may've started out well but we can still have a chance to get back at them," said Camille earnestly.
This time we have the ball and Camille is taking it, though we are intensely guarded Camille has no other choice but to call check, as they exchange ball Camille starts by running towards the hoop however she has to face off with Joey she does it with no sweat and made a clear shot. Everyone was surprised for a moment but the others cheering for us were calling out Camille's name giving her praises.
She smiled brightly and said,"Well now we're tied, still think we don't have a chance cause I'm just getting started."
"Hm. We'll see about that your smile won't be there for long, that was just a warm up," said Joey smirkingly.
"Oh really, then lets start for real," she said challengingly.
"Alright then, for real this time," he said agreeably.
There were like sparks flaring within their eyes as they gaze towards each other, the air felt tense with the two facing off made the crowd cloud in silence.
Joey starts off with a pass towards Byron who quickly claims the ball and runs to the opposite side, Tara was trying to stop him but was a bit slow to as he pass her with quick motions, I started after him trying to claim the ball but before I realize it he passes it to Kai who then makes a nice shot in midair I watched as it took my breath away he lands and stares at me calmly, the crowd started cheering for him disrupting the silence that appeared before.
"Lets go girls we're still beginning remember what I said before," said Camille.
Her words made me remember what happened in practice, she gave us some codes to help understand each other in difficult situations, remembering this I nodded in confirming what she meant, same towards Tara, the game has was just beginning.
Camille again takes the ball as we get to our positions and still each guy is guarding us, Camille gave us a signal which both of us knows what she meant she begins with a check then races off to the hoop with Joey after her the other guys were busily going towards them with us girls open we come behind, with all guys blocking her she quickly passes it to me as I quickly make a shot it luckily made it. Kids were cheering for us and shouting our names, we all smiled happily for their support, I turned to Kai and find his gaze to me my heart gives out a sensation of shyness, but his expression is blank I can't tell what he's feeling or thinking, I wish I can though.
"Hey, you still think we can't win, I'm sure we're doing this for real, are you giving up."
"Don't be so sure of yourself, we still have time to win this game and I'll make this deal as uneasy as it was," he said mischievously.
"Right, well I'll make sure that doesn't happen," she replied determinedly.
The score is tied 6-6 hopefully it stays that way I thought, then the deal will be off but a part of me wants to know what Kai wants if he wins, recalling those words he says its something that only I can do, but I'm still confuse on what he meant by that, what is it that I can only do for him?? I shake my head in order to clear my mind, right now I should focus on the game since I need to this to help Camille we must win this for Camille's sake or else foe our sakes.
The game still continues and it's there turn to take the ball, we positioned ourselves with Camille's signal we understand what to do so I started by guarding Kai and Tara guards Byron, I feel his presence alluring as I did my best to guard as I felt him stare.
"You think you can guard me that easily," he asked coolly.
"I don't think that I know that guarding you won't be that easy just know I'm trying."
"Even as your guarding," he quickly moves pass me,"..you should try harder then that."
I stared wide eye as Kai runs to Joey and he passes the ball to him, quickly coming to my senses I started after him, he finds me chasing him and smiles which made me blush as he stops when I run in front of him he stares at me while bouncing the ball I quickly tried getting the ball from him but failed to do so as he did some tricks with the ball bouncing it through his legs then finally shooting in the hoop. I find him amazing in his play was there anytime he ever missed a shot?
"Still it's fun to play with you I find your expression amusing, your just so easy to read."
"Was that suppose to be a compliment?"
"I thought it was, why did you take it differently?"
Well his way of complimenting is a strange one, had he ever know how to say good things to someone else I never see him nice to anybody else he's just so....distant, but hopefully he doesn't stay like that for to long.
The game is heating up with both teams still on each other tails I never thought it would turn out like this even the guys never had it rough as this, the score is 21-19, we are a little behind with not much time left, we have to make it for this round or else we'll lose.
"Alright girls we are almost there we need to make a three-pointer to win this round, they may know what we're planning with little time we have so try to give me the ball if I know I can't make it with them guarding me I need either of you with open spot to try and make it with a three point shot, I know you can do this try your best and lets win!"
So it all comes down to this if we win Camille will be happy and will get her end of the bargain but if we lose the guys will get what they want from all of us so here goes nothing...
The guys guarding is intense I wonder what happened it was never as intense as this, they probably wanted to win this and stop us at all cost that means we should do the same, everyone was panting and sweating the crowd were all cheers for either teams they seem to now get interested in what is a tidally going on. Camille checks it then starts running with all her strength with the Joey and Kai after her Byron stays with us but couldn't guard the both of us, I quickly make a dash for it in aid for Camille, she finds herself in a difficult situation with two guys blocking her she catches me coming and signals me to catch the ball as I quickly catch it the guys turn and runs toward me desperately I looked at the ball then at the hoop I felt like time slowed down with Camille I hear shouting,"Shoot it!!" And the guys running to me Kai in front, I had to shoot the ball but what if I missed I was afraid for a bit but then I grip the ball and knew it is now or never..., I jumped and shoot the ball, it soars through the air and.....
