Distance Between Us

Chapter 11

The ball soars through the air and bounces on the ring's edge as it slowly balances between in and out the audience was silent for a while and so were we as we watch the ball move slightly side to side, will it make it..., the ball...missed...., it was so close however the ball fell out of the ring. Everyone was silent for a moment after the ball fell and bounced out, until a huge cheer disrupted the silence made by many girls shouting and cheering the guys. It was so close I felt disappointed in myself for not being able to make it, especially when I turn to see my friends which I shockingly had never expected they would say, "Great job out there, you did great," said Camille happily.
"B-but...I didn't..," I said. "It's alright..., you don't have to blame yourself...it's not your fault, it's mine for dragging you girls into this in the first place so don't look like that, smile we did a good job out there," she said smilingly. I was happy to hear what she had said, it made me felt relieved. "That's right you did great Elina so don't feel so bad about it, you were so close we could've won but things turned out differently that's all," said Tara. I smiled and said, "Thanks Tara, and Camille you guys are the best," I exclaimed happily.
They both smiled, I was glad to have met them, they encourage me and cheer me up.
Just as we were happily talking the guys came over which I find myself remembering the deal we all made.
"You girls were close however remember the deal whoever wins gets to tell whatever the losing team must do, which means you will do what we ask of you," exclaimed Joey.
"Right right, then tell us what you want," said Camille determinedly.
"Well, that's very brave of you to say knowing the situation you're in," he said playfully.
"It may be true that we've lost however we were close to winning this game if the ball could've went in, then you can see that we get to tell what you have to do," she replied.
"Although it missed so I wouldn't be so cocky if I were you," he said irritatedly.
"Oh, so what are you going to do playboy," she said teasingly.
"Pl-playboy? Since when am I a playboy!"
"Well you are pretty fond with the girls around here always flirting and all it sure explains it, your friends probably think so to," she said.
"Well I can't deny that," said Byron.
"What! Your taking her side," exclaimed Joey.
"There's no sides I'm stating the facts, anyways can you guys stop arguing like a lovers quarrel your making a scene," Byron replied.
"We're not lovers!!!" Both Camille and Joey said in unison.
"You guys always argue it seems like you guys probably like each other but won't admit it," said Byron.
"There's no way I would like him/her!!" They said again in unison.
"Anyways how about we go somewhere else without having everyone watch us," he said.
"R-right, good idea lets go," said Joey.
We all started to leave until Emilia and her friends started toward us, she looked somewhat happy and irritated at all of us.
"Kai!!! You did great out there, lets go somewhere after school to celebrate," she said happily.
"Can't I have plans," he said.
"P-plans, what are doing?" Emilia urged.
"That's none of your business," he said coldly.
"Hm!! Come on go out with me for once!!"
"I'm not going out with someone like you so stop bothering me whatever you do my answer will always be no," he said.
That left Emilia silent and Kai walking away, then she started screaming madly and marched the other direction.
I didn't know how I felt at the time, his cold words were piercing that even I felt it shockingly, if he'd said that to me I know that I'll probably be crying but Emilia seems strong and just mad at what he said, we're like opposites of each other.
"Wow, he sure is cold to the people around him," said Camille.
"Well he did had a tough life so you can't blame him for being that kind of person," said Byron.
"Did something happen to him to make him feel this way," I asked suddenly.
"Huh? Oh no well all I know is that he wasn't really close to anyone besides his family who probably is more closer to him but he still doesn't speak much and acts the same as he does with others in school, well that's how I always know him."
"How'd you know he had a tough life, all I've heard is that he was only close to his family," I asked.
"Can't you see it, his eyes are sometimes clouded with sadness, as if some eventful things had happened in the past," said Byron.
Now that I think about it, there were times I see him staring off into space as if something had bother him but I though that was just me.
"Why you asking, so it because you like him," said Camille teasingly.
"Wh-what! N-no, that isn't...," I said embarrassingly.
"Then why are you blushing red," she asked.
I touch my cheeks with both hands and felt myself blushing.
"It's nothing..."
Camille smiled and said,"If you say so, anyways lets get going."
We head to a secluded place where no one was in site, Joey was the first to speak.
"Alright, Camille.....I want you to go.....on....a date with me."
We were shocked, especially Camille who was both surprised and confused.
"W-wait you did all of this so you can go out with me?!"
"Hey, don't make it seem like a waste, besides even if I asked I knew you'd refused," he said defensively.
"Well that's true I would've turned you down right away, since I don't like your type of guys," she said.
"H-hey what's so bad with who I am," he asked.
"You are trouble that's all I can tell."
"Yeah, I would agree with that," said Byron.
"Hey quit butting in," he said.
"Alright, fine," said Byron.
"Anyways since we made a deal, you can't refuse, I'll text you the meeting place for tomorrow's date," said Joey.
Camille let out a sigh then said,"Fine, a deal's a deal."
Joey smiled happily after she'd accepted.
"Hm...a date...doesn't seem like a bad idea, even if I'm with someone as cute and innocent as you," said Byron mischievously.
Tara blushed and looked away.
"Hey now your stealing my idea," said Joey.
"Wouldn't it be more fun to have a double date," said Byron.
"Make that a triple date."
The words I unexpectedly heard was from Kai! It shocked not only me but surprised the others as well.
"Well, that's unexpected for you to say, never knew you want to go out with anyone and to fine it's Elina that caught your interest," said Joey.
"Same to you, I never seen you been more interested in a girl who is not much your type, and to know you guys argue most of the time you bother to ask her out," he said.
"Hm! Well I guess we'll leave it there, how does the place nearby with a cafe be our meeting place, does that sound good," he said smirkingly.
Everyone seem to come to an agreement, the bell rang and we all started to leave but before that I take a quick look at Kai who seems normally cool about this idea seeing me stare at him he stares back it made my heart skip a beat, as he looks at me then gave a wry smile which had me stare in disbelief.
"I'll see you tomorrow then," he waved as he said this then left.
I started to go to my next class and while doing so I thought that by dating Kai would that mean we are together..., which makes me think of what he thinks of me, does he like me? No..., that can't be someone like me he wouldn't be that interested but why did he decided on dating me, besides that if we're together most of the day then that means I can get to know him better and probably the sadness he has with him in the past..., I really wanted to cure that sadness buried deep inside him then maybe his distance won't be as far as I find it to be....
