Distance Between Us

Chapter 6

Arriving at my third period class I sat down at my desk and started getting my supplies out, when I heard footsteps walking towards my direction and saw that it was Kai, taking his seat beside me. Then I remember that we both have the same class together.
"Oh..., um...did I left you back there I'm sorry I forgot we had the same class together we should've walk together since we have the same class," I said sadly.
He turns to me and said,"It's fine, I don't really care anyhow if we walk together to class or not," he said coolly.
"Oh..., ok...," I said shyly. "Anyways...you did promise something so what basically do friends usually do..," he says curiously. I looked at him a little surprised, "You don't know what friends do together?"
"Well I see many just talk and hang together is that what you basically do..."

"Well...that's part of it yes but there's more you can do with friends like help them, have fun, understand each others feelings...," I said knowingly. "I see...," he said thinkingly. "Well don't you know what you and your friends do I mean you guys are friends whatever you do with them together are what friends basically do." "So even a aggressive,selfish, and cruel person can be called a friend?" "W-well yes I mean everyone needs a friend right, even if their personality isn't that great, there is someone that can at least help and understand their feelings, who knows they may even have a change of heart because of a friend."
Kai just went silent for a while...until the bell rang then he came back to his senses. I was going to ask why he ask those things, was there a friend he use to have that was like that..., I'm not really sure, there is probably so much I don't know about him, and I want him to try to open up to me, his distance is so far that I want to keep running until the end, I don't know why I'm interested in learning more about him but all I know is that the more things I learn from him, the happier my heart feels and the distance between us becomes closer. Lunch had started, I quickly left my history class and headed towards the cafeteria where my friends and I decided to meet. Camille and Tara were already waiting near the lunch line, they found me and started waving.
"Hey." I said. "Hey, wanna get lunch I'm kinda starving," said Camille.
"Sure." I replied.
We got our lunches and took a seat near a shady tree where not many students come, it was a peaceful and nice scenery for us to enjoy.
"Wow...this place is nice to have lunch, I'm surprise that not many students come here to hang out, it's actually not such a bad place even when eating are lunches," said Camille.
"Yeah I agree, it feels so tranquil, I'm glad we found a nice place to eat our lunches," said Tara.
"That's great we can make this our lunch table since I don't see anybody else using it," I said happily.
Both of my friends nodded, then we started eating our lunches while chatting. After eating, we all went towards a nearby trashcan to throw our leftover lunches, as we do we encounter an unexpected scene. Byron and one of the popular girls we seen before were alone together, they both had on unusual expressions, I wonder what's going on? "Hey isn't that the girl we met yesterday at lunch with the other popular girls, I think her name was Marietta if I recall from our unpleasant meeting," said Camille.
"Yeah I think so, but this seems like a personal conversation so we shouldn't eavesdrop on their conversation," I said in a reasonable manner.
"I agree with Elina we should leave here before they find out we're here," said Tara innocently.
"But guys I'm kind of curious what they're about to say, can't we stay a little longer," she said pleasingly like a child begging for candy.
"I don't know Camille, I hate to hear others personal talk, can't we leave...," asked Tara anxiously. "Come on, don't you want to know what they're going to say, you look like you like him by the way when I saw you guys together alone in the library you sure nothing happen," said Camille teasingly.
"D-don't be silly, nothing happen between us we were just talking that's all..," she said blushingly. "Right...then how come you are red all over is it because your not sure if anything happen," she asked. "No...I'm positive nothing happen between us," Tara said while covering her blushed face.
"Uh huh...right.., but still lets just hear a little bit and then we'll go, promise," she said.
Tara and I looked at each other then shrugged, but we're still unsure about this as we listen and eavesdrop on their conversation unsettlingly.
"Come on.., you promise we'll go out together at lunch...," said Marietta upsettingly.
"Marietta I never agreed to this, can't you leave my friends and I alone, we don't like you girls bugging us everyday at lunch," he said pleadingly.
"Why do you keep saying these things, we were suppose to go out especially my friends are trying to convince your friends to join us why won't you..," she asked sadly.
"Look even guys needs space I didn't ask you out or anything even my friends say the same thing so just leave us alone don't think badly of what we're doing at least try to understand how we feel," he said reasonably.
"Oh I understand, you just don't want us around, what's wrong with me am I not good enough for you, cause I'm from the popular people around so how come!" She says angrily. "That's one reason I don't want you girls bothering us you girls are noisy and we want to be alone with no disturbance," he said a little mad.
"Wow..never seen him react like this before," whisper Camille.
"Yeah..., I think we should go we seen enough...," said Tara anxiously.
"Come on..just a little longer...," said Camille pleadingly.
"But you promised...lets go before they catch us watching," she said a little scared.
"Alright..., but only one minute then we'll go I promise..," she says again. Tara sighed, "Fine..but only a minute, that's it," she said impatiently.
As we watch their argument, we heard someone called out, "Hey, you still at it with this argument." We look in the direction the voice was heard and saw Kai and Joey with one of the popular girls next to each guy.
"Oh you guys are here, yeah I'm having some trouble dealing with her," said Byron.
"Your not the only one, we're tangle with these girls as well," said Joey.
"Well we're going out after all," said Felicity as she batted her eyelashes at Joey.
"Well I don't think so, you girls are bothering us that's all there's to it," Joey replied.
I saw Kai with Emilia, she was so close to him her arms wrapped around his like how a couple should look, it made me somewhat sad for some reason...
Kai started looking up and caught us spying on them, oh no! He found us what should we do! I frantically back away behind the wall, and my friends did the same.
