Chapter 20
Charlie
What was I doing? This was totally a completely huge mistake, and only bad things could come from playing this game. But I didn’t want to stop, it was too much fun. And I knew I could hold my drink, and I wasn’t going to let myself get completely out of control. But I definitely wanted to know more about the boy sitting cross legged across the coffee table opposite me.
“The game; Never Have I Ever,” I stated, and I saw a wicked little grin spark at the corner of his lips before he composed himself and waited for me to continue. “Normal rules, if you have done it, you take a sip.” I unscrewed the lid from the bottle and poured the brown liquid to the brim. “Standard cap full, OK?” he nodded and I smiled. “You go first.”
“Alright. Never have I ever…” he started, and the game continued, first very innocently but gradually becoming more and more invasive, and sexual as it always did when alcohol was involved.
“Never have I ever…made out in a field,” Louis stated a few rounds later, when the buzz was starting to build in the back of my brain. I smirked and took a shot, remembering my ex and I at a festival that had happened two summers ago. It had been an amazing weekend, right until Sunday night. After that, it all went wrong.
“Never have I ever…ended a relationship,” I said after the burn of the shot had ceased. I saw a crease form in Louis’ brow and worried I had gone too far, that I had asked something way to personal, but he said nothing and simply did the shot a few moments later. Perhaps it was too soon to be asking questions like that, becoming invasive into others past relationships were not my style.
“Never have I ever…been dumped,” Louis said, and I knew now that I had gone too far, and this was his pay back. I did another shot, my eyes never leaving his serious ones, and I knew that I had to make it up. “Explain.”
“My ex, Daniel, cheated on me at a festival two years back. I caught him in our tent on the last night with a girl we had met the day before, she was staying two tents down. Needless to say, festivals definitely aren’t my fondest memories anymore. It’s a shame, because it was amazing until that point.” I shrugged, not wanting to dwell, and I knew that Louis felt bad for bringing it up.
“Sorry, that was mean. I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“It’s OK. I’m over it now. Maybe if the right guy comes along I’ll go to another festival. We shall see.” I said, thinking that maybe Louis could be that guy. Thankfully I wasn’t drunk enough to admit that, but I could feel myself wanting to tell him the truth, about everything. Surely he would be ok about it, wouldn’t he? I should just-
“It’s your turn. Unless you’re too chicken to reveal anything else about yourself?” Louis cocked one eyebrow suggestively, and I half smiled in response.
If only you knew how much I want to reveal about myself, I thought sadly, but deep down I knew it would be the worst idea I’d ever have, even worse than agreeing to this whole false identity scandal in the first place.
“Never have I ever…kissed anyone across a coffee table,” I said in an attempt to lighten the mood. It worked because a second later the flirty glint in his eye reappeared and the little dimple that creased when he smiled was back.
“Neither have I.”
“Well, someone needs to drink, so what should we do?” I said, leaning forwards on my elbow so that our faces were merely inches away. He mirrors my movement so the gap closed considerably. I could almost count each eyelash that framed his eyes.
