FlashbackDad was drunk, as usual. He came to my room and started to blame me for mom's death. Mom died when she was giving birth to me, I could understand that. I cried as he slashed me with his belt. It was painful. I screamed so hard trying to beg him to stop.
But one day, he didn't attack me. He was crying on the staircase as I walked closer to him. He was holding a picture of my mother and a note. My dad noticed me and I shut my eyes ready for the harsh words I expected to hear.
He hugged me. For the first time in my five years of living he finally hugged me.
"Violet, I'm so sorry. I'm so so sorry."
"Okay dad, it's fine."
"No, I'm a bad father. Your mom told me to take care of you but I didn't."
He kept apologizing and I kept trying to comfort him.
...
Dad went to an anger management class and fell in love with the teacher. Ms Sophie loved him too so they got married after three years of being together. I was happy because I was finally having a mom. I was the happiest little girl ever.
Months had passed since the wedding and Sophie was pregnant with a boy. My father was paranoid because he didn't want Sophie to die. I pretended it didn't offend me but really it hurts. Sophie kept trying to convince dad that she was going to be fine.
