Hello! I see you have decided to pick this book up and wander into this crazy story with me. Well, first is first: my name is Sorox (yeah, I know, it sucks) and I live in one of those places that you humans don't think exist. You know, like the ones in the books (Harry Potter, The Hobbit, The chronicles of Narnia...) which by the way do not exist. Well, not that I know. Anyway, my name is Sorox and I live in Trivilium, the capital of Zaros.

Another thing that you should know about me is my race. I am not an elve, nor a dragon, nor a human, nor a druid... I think you get the point. I am a mixed race, (also known as prosox) which means that I belong to more than one race. This makes things reeeeally complicated, because here in Zaros it is not accepted to be a prosox of any kind, and in my particular case, it's even worse. Even though my father will never tell me the truth, I know that I am not just an elve, and even though he keeps denying it, I know that my mother was a human. How? Well, because if she wasn't a human, then I would look like an elve, and just like an elve. Instead, I have a strange mix of deep blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, and pale skin. How do elves usually look in Zaros? Well, they usually have blue eyes, extremely blonde (almost white) hair, pale skin, and really pointy ears (I obviously don't have these).

So, you will ask me, is it bad to be a human? Depends on who you ask. To me it's great, but to Phoelix XV (kings have never been required to be creative here in Zaros) and the other fourteen Phoelix it is horrible and unacceptable. Why? Well, to discuss that we will have to go back a couple of years. 2015 to be exact. By the way, here a 1000 years is not that big of a deal. Most of us live up to two hundred years, with the exceptions of kings, who have the tendency to die before reaching a hundred. If you ask their family and their descendants they will tell you that they did it for Zaros, and that it was all done out of honor. That is where I have to eat my words and feel how my face goes red while I go through what would happen if I said what I was thinking. That is that it was not done out of honor, and that they died because they were stupid and dumb.

So, where was I? Oh right, 2015 years ago. 2015 years ago, in year 0, or The Great Year, all non-magical creatures allied in order to defeat all of the magical creatures. This includes humans (yes, humans are considered magical creatures), elves, druids, witches, wizards, dragons, unicorns... Can you guess the outcome? Yes, sadly the non-magical creatures won, instead of accepting to sign the peace treaty that "we" had offered them. How can non-magical creatures win a battle against magical creatures? Well, "we" trusted the wrong people. We gave them too many chances while they were planning their victory. Not all of "us" were good, and not all of "them" were bad either, but the ones that took the lead in the battle were. Who took the lead on both sides? Well magical creatures chose humans to guide them, and non-magical creatures chose dwarves, and not the nice kind of dwarves. They chose Phoelix I, a really powerful dwarf, and actually not that dumb, just too ambitious and evil. He planned for his son to fall in love with a magical creature in order to learn all of their secrets. Surprisingly enough, it worked. An elve fell in love with Marsus, Phoelix's son. Her name was Rosaline, and she was the daughter of the chief of the elves, who was also the one who advised humans on the choices they made.

They won the war and killed a lot of magical creatures. The only two races that became extinct were unicorns and dragons, because they were used in order to create The Last Spell, which erased all kinds of magic from Zaros. The remaining magical creatures went to a deserted island named Xeris, and they have been living there ever since. No one can get out, and no one in their right mind would want to go to that arid, dark and hopeless place. Nonetheless, it was their best choice, considering that the other one was dying. How did Phoelix I allow magical creatures to live? Well, remember Rosaline? Marsus and her actually fell in love, and he convinced his father to let them live.

Now, if you have been paying attention, (which I hope you have) I am an elve/human, and I live in Trivilium, Zaros. How is that possible? Well, sometime before the non-magical creatures attacked "us", Rosaline convinced her father that Marsus was going to change everything, and she went to live with them, in a castle on the north of Xaros. Rosaline convinced her father to come with her and to retreat, because according to her, the war was going to end soon. Most of the elves followed him, and from that moment on "we" , became one of "them". Once we arrived at the castle, Marsus welcomed "us" and allowed "us" to stay at the castle. What Marsus did not know was that his father was going to set us a trap. The next day Phoelix I tried to kill all of "us", but Marsus and Rosaline pleaded him not to. He said that if we wanted to live, we had to retreat, stay with them, and tell them all of our plans and strategies. The chief commander accepted, and from then on we were granted our "freedom", we were striped of all of our powers, and we ended up helping the dwarves win the war, which made us traitors. Only 7 elves were asked their opinion on the matter before accepting and turning us into cowards. So, yes, we were the ones who doomed all of those magical creatures to their deaths in order to live, and it is a burden that millions of us have to live with because of the choice of 8 elves         ( the Chief and the Wise Seven), but hey! You have to be happy about it, because it was such a great thing and Rosaline and Marsus convinced Phoelix I to let the remaining magical creatures to live in the worst place in all Zaros.

That is the reason why I want to leave to Xeris. This is nothing heroic, it is the only choice I have: either run away and get to Xeris alive ( which is practically impossible ) or get killed tomorrow. It is a Hobson's choice, and quite frankly, I choose the first one. Maybe I will save the people from Xaros along the way, maybe I will get killed, or maybe I will stay on Xeris, with the rest of the magical creatures.
