It had been 7 days since the incident. I didn't stay so long because of grief. I spent one day in silence, but then I realised that it would not make any difference, and that Shila would not want me to do that. She would want me to continue, to get to Xeris. I spent the following six days planning.I was safe here, and I could not say that about a lot of places, so it was perfect for me to stop and plan. I also had time to gather more resources from the abandoned lodges. They were filled with things that would be useful for me. I had found a sword, food and gold. A lot of the things I got were worth a lot of money, and I would need a lot of money if I wanted to get a good boat at Bessemo. But the most important thing that I had gathered was Noctanoc dust.
I did not know what I was gonna use it for, but it made me feel safer. It had really strong chemical properties, and served for both magical spells and poison-making. If you spread a Little bit of Noctanoc dust in water, the person who drinks it instantly falls asleep. Instead, if you mix it with petroleum, it explodes. It has a different reaction with every single particle. The only thing that it does not react to is air and solid surfaces. That is why I put it inside a flask and kept it safe on my bag.
I finally continued my journey after finding the Noctanoc dust. I got to the Trepomo mountainside, which was about a 6-hour walk from here, but as I had to stop in order to sleep, it took me a whole day. As I became closer to the mountainside, you could feel the tension building up. The landscape stopped being a fairytale full of flowers, and suddenly, everything started becoming paler.
There were no animals, a few trees, and the ground was full of rocks, mud and sand. There was no clear path to follow, because before you needed no path since you had the huge branch of the Wisdom Tree to guide you.
Once I finally got there, the landscape had changed completely. It all was dark. It was not the typical pleasant mountainside full of nature. It was only mountain, and more mountain, and snow, lots of snow. And the mountains were the color of coal. At the peak of the mountains you could see a lot of snow, and it became obvious that it snowed a lot in here. It appparently snowed so much that there was no wildlife.
That was not how it used to be. At first, when magical creatures existed, this place was full of wildlife, and the magic flowed thanks to the Wisdom Tree, but when magic "died", it seems that it affected the place completely. It had all started after the Wisdom Tree died. Even when I was young the mountainside was full of animals, and full of plants.
This had also happened because water had become harder to find here. There are two rivers in the mountain range (mountain- river- mountain- path- mountain- river- mountain- path- mountain), but they were frozen now. It had been forecasted that it was going to become colder in the Trepomo mountainside, because of the "change in the wind" or something like that, but I think that they knew it was going to happen because of the lack of magic.
That made this mountainside the perfect place for hiding. The perfect place for crime . Even though you may not see them, you knew they were there. Like if you were running and suddenly you felt like you were being observed. They were there, little goblins and dwarves waiting for you to come next to them, or for you to drop something.
They live on little hidden caves on the mountains, next to the rivers. They are the reason why nobody wants to cross the Trepomo mountains.
