Chapter 6: The Dragons Mate

As Natsu's head layer against the sleeping girls bed he let's out a long sad sigh. He's stayed with her all alone in the small apartment for months on end. Now on the eleventh month he begins to feel impatient and lonely, his constant thoughts are on the girl that stole his heart nearly a year ago.

The dark room is nearly untouched beside Natsu's preparing of meals. The fire dragon would always force a smile when erza or gray would make an appearance at the door. Happy on the other hand would remain at Lucy's side the entire time. Natsu was on the verge of a break down until a knock on the apartment door rang through the entire apartment. As Natsu made his way to the door he let out a huff and pulled open the door. The lone figure in the door way was the boy that had caused so much pain and suffering by kidnapping the dragon slayers mate. Natsu's face dropped before finally speaking, "What the hell do you want Kiyoshi?" The black and white haired youth sighs and makes his way into the apartment. He takes a seat in one of the chairs from the kitchen, "Natsu... would you do anything to bring her back?" Kiyoshi's face obviously pale from the thoughts passing through his mind. Natsu thinks for a moment and nods his head, "Of course I will. What do you know ki-ki?" The other boy blushes from the nickname but let's out a somber sigh. "Well without this lucy won't wake up... there's a women deep in the mountains who has a special elixir that will bring her back but her payment is..." Natsu growl and stomps his foot. "What does she want?! I'll give her anything!" Kiyoshi looked away and bit his lip before answering. "The price is either a dragons heart or... your life." Natsu smirks at the comment. "That's all then what the hell am I still doing here?" He smiles and grips his fist into a tight ball. "Don't worry luce... I'll bring you back to fairy tail so please don't worry." His smile goes sad as he walks past a protesting Kiyoshi. Natsu made his way to the guild to make sure his lucy would be taken care of if anything was to happen to him. He looks over the guild and found the only person in the entire guild who could understand how he felt about his beautiful mate. "Gajeel..." Natsu made a point to drag him alone outside.

Levy being the intelligent book worm she was knew right away what was going on and made her way to her friends apartment. When she got inside she sighed but smiled, "Natsu you better come back to her."

Gajeel pulled away once they were outside. "What the hell flame brain, I was having a minute with my shrimp!" He growls ignoring the fact he's stopped hiding their relationship. Natsu sighs and begins "Gajeel I need you to protect lucy for me. You know what it's like for a dragon to leave his mate. This isn't easy for me... wait, your shrimp?" Natsu laughs as Gajeel blushes mad and shoves a metal fist into his face. "It's not like that bastard!" Natsu just laughs it off and sighs. "So will you watch over lucy or not metal head?" His smile hiding his cold sadness deep inside. Gajeel let's out and understanding groan, "Fine I'll do it!" Natsu's face turns happy but is cut short buy Gajeel's booming voice, "you better come back for her." He growls and stomps inside leaving natsu alone to think over what just transpired. With a quick nod Natsu smiled and starts his long walk towards the train station.

When he arrives he keeps his head down, leaving his blue best friend in silence. Happy small paws clinging to Natsu as he walks along. "Natsu your gonna stay alive right... you won't leave me and lucy alone right. We don't wanna lose you." He sniffles and cries into Natsu sturdy and warm chest. Natsu let out a soft sad sigh. His hand gently moving down the back of the blue feline. "Happy I don't plan on losing anyone so of course I'm not leaving you alone." His warm smile contrasting with his nervous and cold heart. The exceeds face lights up as he wipes away the stray tears leaving his eyes. "Yeah! Cuz were a team Natsu! We stay together forever!" Natsu smiles bigger at hearing that. "Yea. Your right Happy. We're always gonna be a team." And with that they bored the train headed in the direction of the snow covered mountains of Fiore.

The train ride was a mix of an awkward silence as well as the constant sounds of pain emitting from the dragon slayers mouth. Happy would occasionally pet his head to help ease the pain, but mostly stayed as far from the vomiting boy. "Happy! Just kill me now! I'm dying!" Natsu's head hanging out if the window as another stream of vomit leaves his body. As he stomach calms itself he drops down into his seat. "Never mind happy. I'm feeling better." Natsu forces a smile but without warning the small exceed speeds into his gut. Natsu's eyes widen until he slowly blacks out. Happy sits up and rubs the large bump on his head. "So that's why Erza does it. I just never thought it would hurt so gard." He pouts and sits in the unconscious boys lap.
