Chapter 7: A World Divided

Natsu's pov~

"I can hear them, happy and the women. What are they saying, I'm fine aren't I?" I look around seeing a cold darkness closing in around me. I put my hand to my chest and feels a slow rhythmic heartbeat. My eyes widen as I feel the slow and soft beats. "What the hells going on?" I try and free myself from the hot and black space that's holding me captive. As I struggle I feel my mind fading and my heart coming to only a few soft beats. "Damn it, this is it... at least lucy will live." As the words pass from my lips I can feel a smile taking its shape over my lips. "Sorry Happy, Wendy, Erza, even Gray I'm sorry I won't be coming back. And lucy... I love you." As a cold sleep starts to engulf me I can see a strange light coming closer towards me. I reach out for the light, hoping for something to pull me from the darkness. A soft and elegant hand reaches back and takes my hand, pulling me closer into the light.

As I'm pulled through I can feel the warmth, comforting me with its warm embrace. My eyes look over everything trying to take it all in. My eyes then widen with the realization, everything looks like magnolia. The guild, Lucy's apartment, and even my house. I look for the source of the hand that had saved me but I was all alone here, not a soul to be seen. I start my decent into the city, hoping to find at least one person. As I walked along the silence made my feelings of fear and loneliness intensify, "this... is what it felt like when I lost Igneel... I won't let that happen again." I let out a low growl as I start to run towards the guild.

As I reach the large guild doors I take a deep breath and push them open, slowly with only the soft creek of the door as its swung open. "Lucy... Erza....Wendy... anyone...." I feel tears stinging at my eyes at the sight before me, an empty guild hall. No sign of anyone, not even their scents were left. "What kind of hell am I in..." I grip at my chest, feeling it tightening in the dark and lonely guild hall.

"Natsu..." my eyes shot up at the soft voice, when my eyes take in the source of the voice my heart flutters lightly knowing I'm not alone. "First master?" I say softly and look over her once more. She let's out a worried sigh as she looks down at me, "Natsu what are you doing here? This place isn't for people who are alive. What have you gotten yourself into? First the blond girl and now you, what is Marcrov doing there." She growls with irritation of two guild members being stuck in this limbo state. My eyes widen as she mentions the blond girl, "Master, do you mean Lucy? Where is she? I've gotta find her fast." I say in a panicing tone to only receive a soft fist to the top of my head. "Natsu she's there... don't worry she's not dead either." As she speaks those soft words she points to the wall of the guild, a glass looking film in the path to more of the guild. I walk over and puts my hands on it and looking around the other side. I start to bang on the glass, even going as far as using my magic to try and destroy the barrier. As I work to break through a sight catches my eyes, a small, shaking and afraid girl sitting in the corner. As she turns her blond hair moves with her elegantly. "LUCY!!" I yell out as I keep slamming my fist into the dividing force between us. I feel my hands starting to break and Crack from the force, leaving blood not only trifling down my hands but also the glass.

Lucy forces herself to stand as she rushes to the glass wall and shakes her head. I watch as her mouth moves but I can't hear her. I feel my eyes start to burn with more tears as I watch her break down against the glass. I push my self against the glass as I place my hand on it, I smile through the tears as I look at her hoping she can understand my message. "Lucy... I'll come for you, I'll take you home, I promise... I love you!" I yell out desperately only to have myself breakdown as she puts her hand matching my own on the glass as she nods and mouths four words. "I love you too." As I see her crying face I turn to face the first master. "Master you know how to get her out right? Please tell me what to do."

She looks away as she knows the answer isn't what I'd want. "Natsu... if you want her free you'll have to give up your magic... forever." My eyes widen as I drop my head and without hesitation mutters, "thank goodness, take it. All of it." She nods sadly as she snaps her fingers, the sound echoing as if in eternity before watching a bright golden flame starting to move from my chest and into her hands, "I'm sorry Natsu..." She crys lightly as she swipes a hand through it, as it fades a horrible pain burns in my chest as I drop to the ground, rolling and yelling in pain as I watch Lucy bang on the glass as she starts to fade away. "Thank... goodness." I struggle to say before passing out against the hard ground.

Present day-

As she clings to me I wrap my arms around her and whispers. "Not dragon... just your Natsu." I kiss her head softly as I feel myself being powerless now. "What do you mean, what did you do Natsu?" She asks blaming herself for whatever has happened. I chuckle and softly knocks on her head. "Nothing happened I'm just happy to be home." I say softly only to have her slam her lips against my own. I kiss back happily until being interrupted by a red haired beast. "NATSU, LUCY, SAVE THAT UNTIL AFTER YOUR LOOKED OVER!" She snaps at us and I stiffen up and nods. "Y-yes ma'am, so sorry ma'am." Lucy on the other hand let's out a laugh as she stands and pulls me out of bed. "Come on Natsu let's hurry to the guild." I just blush and nod as she pulls me out, past Erza and into the outside snow. We trudge through the snow, I start to fall behind not used to the cold. "Come on Natsu hurry up and stop being lazy." She teases me as she walks into the loud guild hall. I follow fast as I try and keep up. As I make my way inside a cold hard fist hits me in my cheek, knocking me to the ground. "YOU IDIOT FLAME BRAIN, YOU HAD EVERYONE HERE WORRIED WHEN YOU DIDN'T WAKE UP WITH HER!" Gray yells as I struggle to pull myself up only to get kicked hard sending me against the wall as I feel myself wanting to fight back but knows I can't. "Come on dragon boy fight back already!" He growls and takes his stance before shooting his ice at me and stabbing into my leg, chest, and arm. As they do not only his but everyone's eyes widen and take a step back. "W-what the hells going on with you... your a fire dragon melt them..." He mutters as I try and pull myself up to only have lucy catch me. "Natsu what's wrong... what's really happening?" She clings to me as she starts to cry and sniffle. I drop my head knowing I'll have to tell her, "Lucy... I traded my magic for you." I softly and looks away as her eyes widen and starts to back away. "Natsu... why... why would you do that? I didn't want you to do that. It's not fair to you!" She yells and runs away crying. I feel my heart drop as I she runs. "I-im sorry luce..."

Three months later-

I sit in the guild hall holding lucy close as i laugh at happy doing his little dance. Everything seemed peaceful and happy, everyone was laughing and drinking in this new time of peace. But knowing magnolia it wouldn't last long. At that moment levy runs in with Jet and Droy. "Master, there are dragons on the border of magnolia! Gajeel stayed to fight but... there's to many!" She crys out as she runs over. My eyes widening as I tighten my fists. "And there's someone controlling them... he's strong... as strong as the dragons!" She yells in masters lap before he stands and yells out, "everyone who can fight, please assist Gajeel and force this threat back to where it came from!" Everyone let's out a loud cheer as the run out, including lucy as I sit at the table unmoving, my hair covering my eyes as I listen to them all leave. "Damn it...."
