"Right this way milady!"said Mary
Anne thanked Mary and steped into a large parlor with a piano in a coner near a window that over look a garden of roses. There were other flowers, but mostly they were roses. There was a sofa with a table that had a little platter of bon bon's and other sweet things to eat. And in the right coner there was a round table with chairs, obviously for playing cards. But what interested Anne the most was a beautiful slender woman in a pink satin dress and a tiara upon her head with the most rapturous jewels set into it, everything from rubies to opals, when Anne entered the room the woman smiled softly and rose from a window seat where she had been reading.
"How do you do?" Asked the woman as they curtsied to each other.
"I am very well thank you." Was Anne's reply. I presume that you are Eizabeth are you not?
"I am, And you must be Anne! I'm delighted to meet your aquatic!
Then Elizabeth looked at Mary who was still standing near the door waiting to be excused.
"Mary?" Said the Queen Elizabeth.
"Yes Your Majesty?" Mary meekly answered.
"Show Queen Anne a seat." She said.
"Yes ma'am"
Then Mary took Anne over to the sofa and put the little table of sweets between the two Queen's.
"Are you comfortable?" Asked Mary when Anne sat down.
"Never mind that Mary, that will be all, go to my quarters and dust, it is simply ghastly." Said Queen Elizabeth with a wave of her hand.
Then turning towards Anne she said. "We have so much to speak about I scarcly know where to begin! She exclaimed, "But before we do anything let us have some tea for we shall be quiet parched by the time were through!" She said laughing.
And with that she rang a bell and a butler who was about four and twenty, walked through the great oak door.
"You rang?" Said the butler.
"Andrew bring some tea up for us would you?" Said Elizabeth.
"Yes your majesty." Was all he said, then he bowed and left.
In a few minutes Andrew returned with a tray of tea. When he left Elizabeth began to talk of throwing Anne a welcoming party the following evening.
"Oh Elizabeth please do not, at least give me a few days to settle in" exclaimed Anne.
"But you are only staying for a few more days! Please Anne, I know everyone will be so delighted to meet your aquatics!" Pleaded Elizabeth.
"Very well I shall consider it." sighed Anne, hoping that her answer would satisfy Elizabeth for the present. And it did!
After that the two Queen were content to sit down for awhile and talk like they were old friends. After a time Elizabeth looked at the clock that was also on the small table and said. "Anne my dear, I've been having a wonderful time, but I do think we should get ready for dinner tonight."
"And what time is dinner?" Asked Anne.
"Do not worry, Mary will tell you when we're ready. Oh and also, before I forget, Edward Cummons is to dine with us tonight, but don't be troubled my dear, he is only a noble, and the only other guest besides yourself..... I do belive that the two of you shall get along very well. But now you must get ready for tonight." Said Elizabeth
And with that she called for Mary so that she could help Anne prepare for dinner.
"Until tonight my dear Anne!"Said Elizabeth as Anne was exiting through the door, lead by Mary.
"Until tonight! Replied Anne. Then a servant quietly shut the door behind her.
