Chapter 6
~The Living One~
They were all here. Jason, Poppy, Chastity, Emmit, my Mother, Tabitha, and my father, Vance. If I didn't reveal them to Kevin or tell them he is my classmate, he would be eaten. Even if I told them he was my classmate he would be eaten, they wouldn't understand that he was one of the few who was apart of my life rather than someone I didn't know. I had to come up with something fast that would keep him safe, even though a lot of the time I wanted him dead myself.
"Who is this mortal?" My father's voice boomed.
Kevin, who was just now getting up was slammed back down to the ground by the power of my dad's voice.
"Father it is alright, I said I was handling it. He is a classmate of mine. He is the um…. Living One. If you eat him, then I will die." I said even though this probably confused Kevin even more because I obviously just called him the Living One.
"Huh?" Kevin said, right on cue I might add.
"Quiet mortal!" my father's voice boomed again, "Is he really the Living One, or are you saying that because you are in love with a foolish mortal?"
"Me? In love with that THING? You have got to be kidding. If I could live the rest of my undead life without him I would!" I said without delay. Kevin, who was trying to stand yet again, looked at me in somewhat of a sorrowful way, then realized the criticalness of the situation and then nodded his head in agreement. "Same here! Only without the undead part."
"Do, you wish for me to believe such lies! There is love here, I can feel it. It is very dim but I feel it. The feelings of sorrow in those words prove it!"
"He is the Living One, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT! That is his job! Not to be sorrowful but to protect me. More than half of the Living Ones that have protected unvampires DID love them! That is WHY THEY PROTECTED THEM!"
"DON'T YOU DARE YELL AT ME LIKE THAT!" My father replied with so much force it was all my strength not to fall!
My father's red eyes were the only thing that showed out of the shadows, thank God! When father shows himself it is really bad, the fact that he is here means that he felt my anger and hunger all the way at the house. So, he is just really worried at the moment.
"Father, you know I will be careful, you know how all the stories end. This Living One may not know yet, but that is the best for him."
My father looked at me, his eyes then dimmed and he said "Be careful alright, Anna, don't let this human fool you."
"Do you really believe I could be out smarted by human emotions?"I said
"No, I do not wish to believe that, but you would not be the only one who did." My father said still worried.
"I shall be fine father; I would not face you if this were not the truth. Whatever happens in the end will be my happiness and the best for me!"
Mom, Emmit, Poppy, Jason, and Chastity all left realizing this conversation was really between me and my father. I could hear them all call down to me that I really should be careful.
"Alright my daughter, I shall give you a chance with this mortal. And Living One, if you hurt her, whether you’re the Living One or not, prepare to come face to face with me." my father said and then left.
I fell to the ground breathing heavily. Kevin walked over to my side and said, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? WHY ARE YOU BREATHING SO HARD? AND WHO IS THE LIVING ONE?"
It took me a while to speak, but when I finally did Kevin had at least calmed down a bit. "Look," I said "That was my dad; he felt the anger and hunger I was feeling just a little bit ago, and got worried that you were hurting me. The only way I could think to save you from that is to tell him that you are the Living One, which in a way you are. My dad was at full vamp, remember how just his voice pinned you to the ground? Well, I was standing against about three times that! I just saved your life; you could be a little more grateful."
Kevin looked at me hard; until he could see I was telling the truth and was really tired.
"I still have a lot of questions." He said finally
"I know, I know, and I can answer them all later. Just don't ask them all at once. I am quite tired. Can you do me one favor though?" I said, just now regaining enough strength to stand.
"Depends, what is it?" He said obviously trying too hard to be funny.
"Go Home!" I said almost cutting him off, "It really is not safe here, and by the way it was not just my dad who was here. My entire family was here. So, they all know what just happened. If anyone finds you here alone, you might just not comeback."
He looked at me, obviously in shock, he nodded his head. I don't think he could have gotten any words out. He turned to leave then turned back. "Which way out?" he said with a voice so shaky I was surprised the words were his.
That is right, I forgot, he can't get out, he is mortal. Someone has to show him out. I mustered up enough strength to have my wings sprout out of my back. "Here," I said holding out my hand, "hold on."
In shock, yet again, he took hold of my hand.
I took us both up into the sky. I flew us to the gate of the property, and then practically had a crash landing. He let go of my hand and I turned full bat. He turned to me, "Thank you," he replied and then he left. I was probably the one who left the most surprised. That was the first time, in a long time; he had said something that didn't make me want to behead him.
