Chapter 5

~Really Unexpected Arrival~

When I finally did wake up it was about 8:00pm, which in the vampire world was about 8:00am for most humans. Considering it was before 2:00pm when I went to bed, I would say I have slept quite a bit. I opened the door to my coffin and walked over to my window. The sun was setting and I could not yet see the moon. I shut my shades. I turned to think, when I felt a familiar presence enter the Vampire Barrier. A Vampire Barrier basically makes it extremely difficult for humans to find their way to our house. Only vampires and unvampires like me can find their way with no trouble at all. The presence was very familiar, but I couldn't figure out who it was. I decided to go check it out, because I was the only one who could. The sun was still in view and if anyone went out to check they would be burned  to dust. I grabbed my cape and posted a note on the door that read: "Checking who entered the Vampire Barrier. I'll be back soon." and walked out the door.

I walked slowly down the path of dirt surrounded by dead dilapidating trees. It felt like home, it was home. The mist, the dead plants, I could never live without them. The sunset tonight was also very beautiful. I swung my cape around my shoulders, and put the hood around my head. The presence was getting closer, I could not tell who it was, but by this point I could tell that it was not a vampire or unvampire, but a normal human. I kept walking, now to the edge of the woods that surrounded my house. Everything was dead but they were still trees, right? I kept walking toward where I thought the presence was. I was about half way through the woods when I heard footsteps other than my own. A few whispers followed. I jumped into the tree nearest me and waited. The voice was getting closer, no doubt. Soon enough I could make out what the voice was saying. "Was I already here before? Wait, that tree is familiar, and so is that one. It is almost sun down, I need to get home." I had heard this voice time and time again, yet, I didn't care enough to remember it. I turned into a bat as the voice got closer and louder.

I could then start to make out the person, short brown hair, white t-shirt, jeans, hiking boots, what else, he was still too far away. I swept in closer. "OH MY GOD THERE'S A BAT!" The voice screamed, and then I knew it, for sure the fact in the back of my mind I really didn't want to be true, was true. Kevin was here, trying to get into my house. "Wait, is that you Anna?" He then said, obviously calming down a bit.

"Who else would it be?" I then stated still in my bat form.

"Ok, now that is just creepy." he said obviously still creeped out by his surroundings more than me.

"Crybaby," I said flying lower and turning human, yet again.

"Ok, still don't get how that works…" He said now more creeped at me rather than the surroundings.

"What? How random smoke comes out so you really don't know how I transform?"

"Yeah, where the heck does it come from?"

"No clue, I just know that is how it works," I said, "now to more important matters, why YOU’RE here." I put my hand on my hip and glared at him letting him know I was annoyed.

"Well, I just wanted to know what the heck happened today, you apparently have a dying family member…" He stated looking away, "I wanted to know if you were ok…"

"Well NO DUH I am ok, it was my sister who got hurt, which really is none of your business!" I said wondering how the heck he found out. Was my life really that cool to the people at school?

"Oh, well, I also kind of wanted to…"He stopped and looked down, now he was looking away and down at the ground, he must either be really nervous or blushing. Then, I figured what he was hinting at.

"Oh, you want to see my house… but I really don't think you will like it… my family is still asleep and they don't like visitors, besides, there is no food you would be able to eat there. You have been out here for a while now; it was your presence that woke me up in the first place," I said using every excuse I could not to bring him inside.

He looked up at me eyes wide, "You only have blood in your house?"

"Well no, not exactly, we have stake too, but we eat it raw…."

His eyes got even wider, "Holy Crap! You really are sick!"

"Well at least I don't get lost in the Vampire Barrier!" I countered getting more annoyed every time he opened his mouth.

"What the heck is a Vampire Barrier?" He said obviously confused.

"You know what I don't care anymore, I am going home." I changed back into a bat, and flew up high, I looked around. I found my old dilapidated house and flew to it. Little did I know he followed me. When I got to the edge of the woods I noticed it just in time and turned to the left so he would follow, sure enough he did. I could not get away from him by sky, and the sun was setting my parents would be up soon. I turned human, and slipped into a tree with many branches. My cloak hid me well because he ran right past me. Yet, still in sight he stopped. "I know you’re around here!" He said, "I saw you land around here."

I have had enough. The sun was set, and well I could go full vamp on him if I so chose. Not to mention I had not had any blood today. I wasn't going to bite him, then he would turn into a vampire, but if he got cut in anyway what-so-ever I could drink from him, as much as I wanted to. I jumped down from the tree, and got behind him. He was starting to freak out again. We were close to the clearing in the middle of the woods, which is where he was headed. I followed him there. He was in about the middle of the clearing when I thought I had waited long enough.

"You were right, I was around here. Good Job." I let my voice echo all around so he would have no idea where I really was.

"See, I am always right!" he said with a little shake in his voice.

"Ah, is that so, then can you tell me where I am, and what I am planning on doing? Can you tell me where you are, can you tell me how to get out?" I said letting my voice get louder and echo all around more than before.

He was silent for a while, "No, I can't answer those questions, but it would be great if you could help me out!" there was so much shake in his voice it took me a minute to figure out what he really said.

"Why, would I help you? What possible reason could I have for helping you?" I walked out from the trees I was in. I was at his back, he obviously figured that out and turned around in a lot more fear that I had realized he had been in. He fell back onto the ground and just sat there staring up at me trying to move back a bit. I calmed down a bit. I realized it was the lack of blood talking. I was so hungry I was about to eat him. I took a deep breath. "Why did you come here?" I said somewhat sorry and much calmer than I had been.

"Didn't I already answer that question?" he said still backing away.

"Yeah, I guess you did. Look I am quite hungry, you better be glad I realized that in time too," I said, "That was almost the end for you. During the night, please don't come to my house, you will…" I didn't finish, because that is when I felt their presence. The presence of being surrounded.
