Chapter 15: Back to the Kingdom

Chapter 15: Back to the Kingdom

Doflamingo's POV

I stared at the picture carefully. There were two women and two men on it. One of the women were Lumina. She looked really young in the picture. Probably in her teens. But then something else caught my attention. The other woman's hair and eyes looked really familiar. They were cherry colored. Like someone else's.

I turned my head slightly to the side to look at Cherry. She was looking through some old shelves. Then I turned my attention back to the picture. The woman looked a lot like her. Could this be her mother? Then I looked at the guy who was hugging her from behind. His features resembled Cherry's as well. He must be her father then.

I decided to tell her what I found- "Cher-" But stopped.

"Do you want to know them... your parents?" I asked her.

She shook her head, simply. "No, I rather not. It would only complicate things." (from Chapter 11: Past Talking)

The memory flashed before my eyes and I stopped myself from telling her anything. I put the picture in my pocket and hid the box in my coat.

[A few hours later - Doflamingo's Ship]

We decided to return to Dressrosa, since we didn't find anything. Except me. I found exactly what we had been searching for, but decided not to say anything. I didn't want to confuse Cherry now.

Then I saw her sitting on the railing, deep in thought. She wore a sad expression which made me feel a tightening feeling in my chest. Was I doing the right thing?

I walked over to her and put a hand on her shoulder and slightly rubbed it. She turned her head towards me and gave a small, sad smile. She put her hand on mine, making my heartbeat race faster.

"In the end we didn't find anything." She said, quietly.

I just stood there, not knowing how to reply to her. "Maybe it's a good thing. There could be something in it you're better off not knowing." I said, trying to lighten her mood.

Then she stood up. "I'm going to bed. Goodnight!" She said and left and deck.

I watched her disappear into the cabin, before turning towards the sea and leaning my body on the railing. I took out the box from where I had hid it before and stared at it for a while, before letting it drop into the ocean. I decided to keep the photo.

I hope I'm doing the right thing.

[10 days later - Back in Dressrosa]

When we returned to the palace, Cherry immediately went up to her room without saying anything.

"Doffy, what happened?" Trebol asked as he approached me and Diamante, while watching Cherry storm off.

"What's up with Cherry?" Diamante asked, before turning his attention to me.

I gave a sigh, before starting to walk toward my room. "We didn't find anything." I lied.

As I walked past her room, I heard quiet sniffles and sobs. I stopped and turned my head towards her door. I walked towards it and put my hand on the handle, but hesitated. Should I enter or just leave her alone? She might not want me to see her cry. Then I left to my own room.
