~*~  Damon's POV

Jake and I were trying to find a good spot to start our hunt. I thought I'd bring him along with me tonight so he can get a little training in. We had been walking for about an hour it seems trying to find a good place that we thought would be a good place for the werewolves to be roaming around in. The night was clear and the moon was full and it lit up the woods perfectly so we didn't have a problem seeing. There were spots of darkness in areas where they liked to hide so we had to be cautious.

"Okay Jake, we got to watch our backs. These woods are probably crawling with them bastards tonight." I whispered to Jake. He was a bit nervous because of this being his first hunt but he nodded in agreement.

"Alright. As long as you go my back I got yours bro." Jake said and I nodded.

We made our way to the spot I had scoped out the same night I had my encounter with Allen. If he wasn't dating my sister and if I didn't care what my sister thought about anything I would have already killed him. I know it's in my nature to kill any werewolf and any vampire that comes in my sight, but something told me to give him in particular a chance. I also didn't want Carrie hating me for the rest of our lives. I cringed at the thought. We made it to the spot where I had chosen and then I motioned for Jake to take a spot on the other side from me, that way one of the werewolves wouldn't catch us off guard.

"Jake go over there by that other tree and watch that side. These things are capable of anything. Just stay alert at all times." I advised Jake.

"Okay I'll keep scope in the oppisite direction." Jake said and then quietly made his way over to where I told him which was only maybe twenty feet away. I have learned from dad that it's best to stay within close range with each other when hunting for werewolves. Vampires weren't really a problem as much as they were so you could hunt them solo.

I sat down and hid myself behind a bush where I still had a clear view, so if I seen one I could shoot it. I got my cross bow ready just in case one crossed my path. For a the next five minutes everything was quiet until I heard some bushes shuffling. I knew it was a werewolf. The rate of speed it was running sounded vilolent as it's paws were hitting the ground. It was running after something but I didn't know what. It was running to fast for me to aim just right to shoot it. Not even ten seconds after it had past I suddenly heard a skreeching scream coming from up ahead. The sound of the scream hit me hard and sent pains in my heart that felt like a thousand knives were being jabbed in it all at once. I know that scream, and it was Carrie's. I just knew it was. I looked at Jake and I could tell he knew it to and he had the same pained look on his face as I did and we both took off running in the direction the scream came from.

We ran as fast as we could to get to her before she was killed by the werewolf. The picture of her being torn apart by one of them ran through my head making me run faster. Jake and I were side by side running at the same rate of speed. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding in my head at the fear of our sister being killed. As our sister and the werewolf that was pinning her down came into view, we stopped and readied our cross bows to aim at the beast. Jake and I were going to take it down together.

"NOW JAKE!" I yelled and both of our arrows were shot, piercing the wolf's flesh. Our arrows were mostly silver to help bring them down easier and more so kill them. The wolf let out a loud whimper as it suddenly realized it was hit, and we knew we hit it. In no time it finally hit the ground motionless and it we knew it was dead. I ran over to Carrie and kneeled down beside her, as did Jake, and as I looked at her I felt tears build up in my eyes as I seen she was in a lot of pain but also relieved that we got to her in time.
