I lightly banged my head on the wall in the living room. Axel came in, setting his keys down on the counter. "Um, what are you doing?" He asked cautiously. "Punishing myself for agreeing to something incredibly stupid." I continued. "Well stop. You're going to dent the wall with that thick skull of yours." I stopped, resting my head on the wall. "Oh boy." He breathed, sitting down. "What's wrong kid?" I groaned. "I just told you. I agreed to something completely and utterly idiotic." My eyes were closed, but I could feel him smiling. That's the thing with Axel's smile, you don't have to see it, you can feel it brightening the room every time without fail.
I can never help but smile when Axel does. It's contagious. It creeps up on my lips and I can't stop it. I push myself off the wall and look at my brother. His tight dark curls were messy somehow, as they always were. His dark, forrest eyes were alert, but also tired in a way. I put my face in my hands. "Axellllll, what do I do?" I could tell he shrugged. "You do what you always do. You will go through it head on and deal with it best you can." I looked at him through my fingers. He was smiling, making me smile. I took my hands from my face. "Fine. Thanks Axel!" I cried, running over and hugging him. Unlike Elliot Axel hugged me back.
"Dude why are you dressed all fancy again? And this time fancy makeup?" Elliot asked when I came downstairs. True, I added more makeup then usual. Black eyeliner to make my blue eyes stand out more against my dress, mascara as well. I fiddled with the black bow in front of it. "That's for me to know and you to never find out." He groaned. "Well whatever, but Axel isn't here to drive you." I nodded. "I know. I'm walking. It's not far." He only coughed. "Fine. Whatever. Have fun doing your girly things." I waved him off and walked out the door.
The night was beautiful. Cool air barely moved my hair. I had taken off my flats long ago. If I could be barefoot all the time I would, my feet were extremely tough on the bottom due to all the times I've gone around without shoes. His house was maybe 3/4 of a mile away, I can walk that easy. My dress gently flowed behind me. Sometimes, when the road was flat, I would run down the street. The asphalt felt cool against my feet. It was beautiful, with the moon guiding me with its light.
The house wasn't overly extravagant, but it was still nice. Two floored, white with a red roof. It was beautiful and homey at the same time. I slipped my shoes on before walking to the door and ringing the doorbell.
"Hello?" A boy, maybe 8 years old answered the door. "Oh, hi! My name is Opal and I...." "PARK! YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS HERE!!!" He screamed so suddenly I nearly fell down. "Forrest!! Shouldn't you be at grandmas?" The little boy sighed. "I was just leaving." He pushed past me and walked next door. I'm guessing that's where their grandmother lives, otherwise that little boy ran into a random house.
Park came running out of the house extremely fast. He ran out the door and literally pushed me over! I fell on the sidewalk, barely catching myself with my hands. He slammed the door and looked at me. "Why are you on the ground?" He asked. "Because you pushed me!!! Now help me up!!!!!!" I stuck my hand out and he brought me to my feet.
I brushed myself off and smoothed my hair down. When I looked up he was staring at me. I crossed my arms. "Can I help you?" He shook his head. "No, no.... um, you just look nice." I nodded. "Thanks. I tried. Who was the little dude?" I asked. "Oh that was my brother Forrest." I snorted. "Forrest and Park? Really?" He rolled his eyes. "Yes, my mom loves the woods and my parents met in a park." I awed. "That's actually really sweet and corny." He scoffed. "Don't go all lovey dovey on me blue eyes. We just have to pull this off. Hopefully I'll never have to talk to you again." I rolled my eyes. "Like you're so fun to be around. Remember keep the touching to a minimum, we have to be convincing but not TOO convincing. Only hands." I specified. He laughed. "If it were possible I would choose not touching you at all." He explained. "Exactly."
When neither of us moved or talked I pushed past him and walked inside. "Ms. Claire?" I called. "Darling!" Came her voice from out of nowhere. I looked around but I couldn't find her. "In the kitchen dears!" He put his face in his hands while I happily skipped to the kitchen.
"Ms. Claire! How are you?" I sat in the chair that was in the kitchen, putting my elbows on the counter and putting my chin in my palm. "Oh just fine Opal! How are you?" I smiled. "Actually really tired. But really excited for tonight too!" I lied. "Now what are you doing here talking to me? Go spend time with Park in his room." My voice raised a few octaves. "Uhh... no, no that's okay. I'm fine hanging out with you." I said nervously. "Oh don't flatter me honey. Go on now, be with your boyfriend." I nearly hurled at the mention of boyfriend. "Um, o-okay." Great. Now I had to go be with Park alone.
