Lyall looked happy to be visiting my house, like she was excited to see something different for a change.
Then as we got there she noted the second car in my driveway. "You live with someone else?"
"Yeah. My best friend Nyx." I answered.
"Nyx? You live with a Roman goddess?"
"I might as well." I laughed. I unlocked the door and headed in, finding Nyx laying on the couch.
"Devin, do you wanna just watch Netflix all night? I'm not feeling well and I just want to.... Oh? Who's you're friend?" Nyx's expression went from boredom to almost disgust as she looked at Lyall. When I looked at the taller girl, I found the same expression on her face.
"Lyall. Pleased to meet you." Lyall quickly put on a smile as soon as she noticed I was looking at her.
"Likewise." Nyx said. "I'll go watch TV in my room as to not disturb you, make sure you get your homework done first."
"N-no." Lyall called, almost guilty, or perhaps desperate. "Stay. I'd like to make friends."
Nyx stopped herself from getting up, so she was still sitting but she looked ready to sprint off the couch.
"Very well. I'll stay." Nyx leaned back into the couch. "But homework before anything else!"
"I'm going to get us drinks then. Nyx do you want ginger green tea since you're not feeling well?" I asked.
"That sounds wonderful." Nyx almost purred as I put my bag next to the couch.
"Alrighty then. What can I get you Lyall?"
"Just a soda's fine." Lyall smiled softly.
I nodded and headed into the kitchen, grabbing two soda's and a can of ginger ale which I poured into a glass before putting it in the microwave for a minute. After it came out I put a green tea packet in it and stirred it. (Don't knock it till you try it.)
As I headed back to the living room I stopped myself as I heard the two of them talking.
"-I know I was stupid and heartless... But it happened okay. I can't take it back." Nyx muttered. The strain in her voice told me she was ready to cry.
"I'm not asking you too. Let's just start over okay? I'm not interested in a relationship at the moment so we can all just make nice. Just the three of us. No family involved, and no fuck buddies-"
"Seriously!?- shit sorry that actually came out of my mouth..." Nyx cringed and I had to fight not to laugh.
I wasn't an idiot. I knew Nyx liked more... Action than most teenagers. But she never tried to get with me.
Lyall just laughed. "We'll see. But for now, we're all just friends okay?"
"Okay." Nyx's voice solidified and I stepped put finding them shaking hands.
"So you two had a break up or something?" I questioned. "Don't play it off I heard the conversation. Or the end of it anyway."
"Yeah. We used to... Go out a long, long time ago." Nyx explained. "But family got in the way and we were forced our separate ways."
"So we're just gonna make up and start over. Because nothing that happened in the past was in any of our control." Lyall explained. "If things escalate then so be it."
"Very well. Here's your drinks then." I handed Lyall the soda, and Nyx the mug of tea which she sipped and practically melted into the couch.
"Oh my god, tea is the greatest thing ever invented." Nyx purred to herself.
