Nyx and I were laying on the couch together, with her spooning me from behind. She held me tightly, as if scared I would slip from her grasp. As if she really couldn't believe that she wasn't going to be executed, and that she could continue living peacefully with me.

"Does it seem too simple to you?" She asked after a comfortable silence. My eye lids heavy as I was finally relaxed, finally at peace.

"Hmm?" I mumbled.

"Everything is fine now, but it doesn't feel like we fought hard enough. Like we didn't do anything and yet everything turned out fine." She answered.

"Don't over think it." I told her as I laced my fingers through her's. "Everything is as it should be."

"Yes, but it feels like we didn't earn it. Like we were given this happiness by someone else."

"Good things happen to good people." I answered.

"I'm not a good person." She confessed.

I rolled over and looked her in the eyes, finding her looking back, her eyes filled with sadness and guilt. "You're a wonderful person. Why are you putting yourself down?"

"I don't deserve this." She answered.

"You deserve more than me with the pain you've suffered through."

She gently cupped my cheeks and smiled softly. "There is no one alive kind and perfect enough to deserve your love." She confessed.

I smiled myself and kissed her. "Well I love you, so it doesn't really matter."

"Why? Why me?"

"Because you are kind. You care about everyone around you."

"But I don't." She frowned. "I'm not the hero. I won't protect just anyone. I won't rescue humans in distress or protect those who can't protect themselves. They must earn my kindness and aid by showing me that they deserve help. That they care for others simply because they should. If they dislike someone based on appearance they deserve to be punished."

"Its still a positive reason. But you should still help people just because you can." I told her.

"I will protect you with my life, but I won't do the same for anyone else." She answered.

"Still" I sighed. "You saved the lives of a lot of people by killing your dopple ganger."

"Unintentionally." She confessed.

"Why are you trying to make yourself sound evil?" I questioned.

"I'm not evil, but I'm not the good guy either." She confessed.

"You're my hero." I told her. "So please stop putting yourself down. You and I are together, and we'll stay together as long as we can."

"I love you. I love you with all my heart." She took my hand and placed it over her heart where I felt the soft rhythm of her heartbeat. "Please don't leave me. My heart can't take it."

"I'll never leave you Nyx. As long as I live I will stand beside you." I answered as I gently took her cheeks and kissed her with all my passion.

Needless to say, we expressed our love in a way that can't be expressed in simple words.

But I could tell throughout the weeks we tried to go back to normal life, that Nyx was nervous of the people around her. Like she expected someone to attack her at a random time.

When I got home after my classes I sat beside her on the couch and pulled her into my arms. "Are you alright?" I asked her as I kissed the top of her head.
